Hello! If we havenā€™t connected properly, yetā€¦ Iā€™m Leina. The very proud owner of madeit.com.au the verified home of Australian handmade. Iā€™ve been building and evolving this space over the past 3.5 years through tech migrations, community building and showing up daily to create a trusted space for lovers of handmade and the most wonderful group of artisans.

I live right on the Tweed River, border of NSW and Qld and it is literally my dream life. My dream man, Jeff. My gentle and kind son, Ari. And my beloved Bruce the big ginger and Ted the scruffy pup.

My handmade claim to fame is I can make any clothing with fabric. From bridal, corsetry, swimwear, suits, leatherwear to my favourite medium of stretch jersey and whipping up a new outfit for the weekend! My mum taught me when I was 10yrs old and I went on to build a fashion brand that started in my garage and then successfully sold four years ago hitting more goals than I could have ever thought possible.

Madeit is more than a business for me, itā€™s my virtual home.
Iā€™m so grateful for the incredible community we are building.
In a world that says; go faster, cheaper, on your own.
We are saying; it takes time, connection, soul, passion.

Have you heard this term? Trust Recession. In a time where there is so much ai being used itā€™s creating doubt with customers knowing what is real.

Customers want to see ā€˜proofā€™ that what you create is truly handmade.

Are you the same? How do you describe it? Often when Iā€™m catching up with friends sharing about our meetups I find myself sayingā€¦

ā€˜I canā€™t put it into words. The connection, the sharing, itā€™s so unique.ā€™

Maybe itā€™s just like handmade?
Maybe itā€™s more than the craft?
Is it our creative magnets?!

Donā€™t grieve the GAP šŸ¤Æ

That sinking feeling of focusing on where you ā€˜shouldā€™ be instead of how much youā€™ve grown!

When weā€™re trapped in the gap weā€™re of no benefit to anyone. And honestly who else is ready to kick ā€˜shouldsā€™ out the door?! If youā€™re showing up, youā€™re growing. Itā€™s that simple.

I forget too.

Do you still create for fun? How do you carve out that space and still have time to allow for everything you need to do for your artisan business?

Iā€™m slowly learning this process.
My brain is still thinking in marketing & how Iā€™d photograph each piece.

Even though I no longer even sell my clothing!! The commercial creative brain keeps kicking in šŸ˜

Day 1 and already new ideas are landing for me. Things that I thought I knew about my business are evolving because Iā€™m being really honest with myself first about why Iā€™m building this Handmade space and why itā€™s so important.

I want to build with you.
I want to create a space of meaning.
I want to be part of an incredible community.

Handmade isnā€™t a trend, itā€™s a belief system and itā€™s so beautifully imperfect and human.

Whatā€™s the real reason you create?

Each week we have a Messy Middle zoom session with Madeit members. One hour of connection, sharing, growing together. Each week itā€™s a different topic. Today we had our guest expert session.

What if building your business came down to two key ingredients?
Does it make it easier? Not necessarily.
Knowing what you need to do and actually doing it are two different things.

For me, the two aspects are;
1. Consistency
2. Recognising progress

Showing up every day is challenging.
Believing in your self and recognising progress is an art.
