The Jajoo Warrngara: The Culture Classroom is a revolutionary resource created to help educators around Australia embed First Nations perspectives in ways that are culturally safe for both teachers and students. The revolutionary platform is a place where you can access place-based, community-led resources that have been co-created, designed and approved by the Aboriginal and Torres Straits Island

It's a comprehensive, contemporary and dynamic approach that’s aligned with the Australian Curriculum and embedded with cultural protocols and depth, not just a blanket box-ticking exercise.

In this film, Aunty Vicki Taylor shares what a Welcome to Country means to her.

At a time when Welcomes to Country are so often misunderstood or criticised, this resource invites students to slow down and listen. To learn that these ceremonies have existed for thousands of years (long before Australia was colonised), recorded in early settler journals and even in Elders’ voices on wire recordings from the 1940s.
In the accompanying unit, ‘The Meaning of Welcome’ (Years 7–8), students explore:
 🌿 The difference between a Welcome to Country and an Acknowledgement of Country
 🌿 Why these practices matter today
 🌿 How media and public debate can misrepresent First Nations cultural practices

This is a powerful resource exploring many perspectives, both First Nations and non-Indigenous, to help young people think critically, understand the facts, and reflect on why these practices exist, and why they endure.

What a privilege to work on the “Dunghutti Strong in Self, Strong in Culture” project 🧡✨

Delivered in partnership with Macleay Vocational College, guided by Dunghutti Elders in the school and funded by Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation, this work came together over 2025 through time on Country, digital media workshops with students, filming across multiple visits, and incredible student artwork.

We’ve created two student-led animations and a series of short documentary-style films sharing lived experiences of growing up Aboriginal in Kempsey; exploring themes of segregation, mission life, bush foods, and, the importance of education.

We’ll be sharing more over the coming days. Teachers, educators and our wider community are invited to explore and share this series.

That’s a wrap on Term 4 📚✨
As some schools finished up last week and others are closing out term in these final days, we’re celebrating a big season of learning, creativity and storytelling through Jajoo Warrngara.

With more than 3,800 Indigenous folk from every corner of the world gathered in , there was an energy you rarely feel in other conferences. (And heaps more spontaneous song and dance 😉) 👌

💚 This is a FREE UNIT 🎧 Voices of Country: Soundscape Art and Advocacy
invites students to listen to the world around them! To step outside, record and reflect on the sounds of their environment. 

This creative Years 7–8 lesson (though this activity could and should be done by ANY age group) explores how sound connects us to place, how listening reveals change, and how we might use the arts to care for our environment.

Use the free resource to guide your class through sound mapping, yarning, and reflection and transform those insights into powerful soundscape art!
