🚚✨ Now THIS is how you get kids excited about trucks!
What a fantastic day at the Brown & Hurley 80th Anniversary Show n Shine! 🎉
One of our favourite things about the day was seeing so many kids out enjoying the trucks. From little truck enthusiasts to teenagers getting a closer look at the machines that keep our communities moving, there were plenty of curious minds wandering between the rows of shiny chrome and serious horsepower. 👀🚛
And there were trucks EVERYWHERE! 😍
It was such a great opportunity for the community to get up close and personal with the transport industry.
For us at Careers In Gear, this is what it’s all about.
Sometimes a career starts with something as simple as a kid standing beside a big truck thinking:
“I want to drive that one day.” ❤️
A massive congratulations to Brown & Hurley on 80 years, and thank you for putting on an event that gave the community a chance to see, touch and experience the industry we’re so passionate about.
You never know where one truck, one conversation or one day at a Show n Shine might take someone. 🚚✨

Sometimes, you just have to say YES. 🚛
Last Monday, we got a phone call from our Careers In Gear sponsor, S&S Heavy Haulage asking if we had time to join them at the Sarina State High School Careers Expo. An exciting opportunity to enter a new school district.
Tayla’s answer was a very quick YES! (With a few calendar adjustments).
By Thursday at 9am, we had the Careers In Gear stall set up, the truck in position and were ready to talk careers. No months of planning. No fancy production. Just a few phone calls, a truck, a team who was willing to jump in and a shared belief in what we’re trying to achieve.
The students loved getting up close and personal with the truck, but the real highlight was the conversations. We talked about where careers can start, where they can lead and the many different pathways available in transport.
Because sometimes students don’t need a perfect career plan. They just need to see what’s possible.
A huge thank you to Cassy and Jarred from S&S Heavy Haulage for believing in our cause, picking up the phone and making it happen. Your support means we can show young people that there are real people, real businesses and real opportunities waiting for them in our industry.
This is what industry supporting industry looks like. ❤️
No fuss. No overthinking. Just wheels turning and showing up for each other.
Because without trucks, Australia stops. 🚛

Some things are built. Some things are inherited. And some are both. 🚛
1990 — Tayla’s family featured in their own story, building their place in the transport industry.
1997 — Emma’s family featured in an industry article, talking about “Working for the Future”.
Fast forward a few decades and here we are.
Tayla building and growing Careers in Gear, with Emma in her corner, backing the vision and helping bring it to life. But the truth is, this didn’t start with us.
It started with the families who taught us that transport isn’t just trucks, trailers and machinery. It’s people. It’s hard work. It’s showing up. It’s backing your word. It’s looking after your industry and leaving it better than you found it.
That dedication was instilled in both of us long before Careers in Gear existed. And maybe that’s why we’re so passionate about where this industry goes next.
Because we’re not just building something for the next generation.
We’re carrying forward something that was built before us.
Two families. Two stories. One industry.
And plenty more road ahead. 🚛💚

🚛 Meet Emma — and yes, she comes with coffee. Loads of it. ☕
Emma was raised in transport, so trucks, transport stories and industry conversations have been part of her world for as long as she can remember.
She’s also known for two things: drinking far too much coffee and using approximately 7,000 more words than necessary to tell a story. But when you’re passionate about something, we’ll let it slide. 😉
Her career has been shaped by the industry too.
Her favourite day of work so far? Seeing an MBM branded trailer hit the road wearing a name she had helped bring to life — and the pride that came with knowing that something created around the dinner table had made its way into the real world.
That dinner table was where Emma’s family started MBM Insurance Solutions. Today, MBM is a trusted and respected name in the transport industry, and Emma has had a front-row seat to what can happen when you back yourself, work hard and genuinely invest in the people and industry around you.
It’s a big part of why she jumped on board with Careers in Gear. Emma believes young people deserve to see just how much opportunity exists within transport. It’s so much more than trucks. From mechanics, technology and logistics to business, leadership, administration, safety and everything in between — there are careers here for all kinds of people, with pathways young people may not even know exist. Most importantly, when she approached Tayla to lend a hand, she meant it. She wanted to be apart of actually making change, not just talking about it.
She’s also incredibly proud to have grown up watching her mum open doors for women and she made sure there was a seat at the table. Emma’s even prouder to now work alongside her sister. So there’s a strong women backing women theme running through this story. 💪🏼
Emma brings industry experience, enthusiasm and an even bigger belief in the next generation of transport. Because she’s seen firsthand what this industry can build — and she’s pretty excited about who gets to build it next. 🚛

Moments like these matter to us. When a business takes the time to spread the word about our program you’ll find us doing a little happy dance in the office! Thank you NSS for supporting our vision. We’ve got another busy 6 months to come 🗓️

Tayla and Emma were proud to represent Careers in Gear at the QTA Diversity Breakfast, surrounded by key industry players who are passionate about supporting the next generation and driving real change.
Careers in Gear was built from the ground up, with a simple belief: students can’t be what they can’t see.
We’re grateful to sit at tables like this, connect with like-minded people and share our vision for a grassroots, boots-on-the-ground program that inspires students to explore the opportunities our industry has to offer.
The momentum is building and we’re excited about the people and partnerships helping us make it happen. 💪

Guiding students to choose their first career path involves not only the students but also ensuring their teachers and parents have access to valuable resources to support their choices. The transport industry is vital to every community, and we're grateful to our sponsors for enabling us to share our knowledge.

Another first for Careers In Gear!
Today we delivered our very first online session for the Distance Education students of Charters Towers School of Distance Education.
Together, we explored:
✅ The incredible opportunities within the transport industry
✅ Tayla's career journey from accountant to business manager
✅ What it takes to become an employee of choice
One of the most important messages we shared was this:
**Employers aren't looking for perfection. They're looking for people who are willing to learn, grow, and keep improving**
Distance Education students hold a special place in our Careers In Gear story. They were the first school to join one of our tour days, and now they've become the first to participate in an online lesson as well.
There's something pretty exciting about breaking new ground together. 🌱
A huge thank you to the staff and students for putting your trust in Careers In Gear. We love creating opportunities to connect young people with real-world careers, no matter where they're learning from.
