❤️ THIS is what See. Believe. Dream. Achieve. looks like.

We could not have been prouder this weekend to see one of our own, Will, representing Wheelchair AFL Juniors on the biggest stage of all, taking part in the AFL Grand Final Parade and then joining the celebrations at the Grand Final medal presentations. 🏆

What makes this moment even more special is knowing where it all began. Only a couple of months ago, we celebrated the third anniversary of the commencement of the Wheelchair AFL junior program.

That program came about after an enormous amount of persistence, belief and advocacy from our junior players and their families particularly Hugh and Nicholas, who helped make the case that young wheelchair users deserved the same opportunity as every other kid: a place to start, play, belong, develop and dream about where footy might take them.

Fast forward three years… and there was Will, waving to the crowds during Grand Final week and representing a generation of young wheelchair footballers on one of Australian sport’s biggest stages.

That’s pretty special. ❤️

We are incredibly proud of all our Freedom juniors and so grateful to the families, coaches, volunteers and the AFL Victoria team who have helped build and grow this pathway.

Three years ago, these kids were asking for an opportunity.

Today, they are showing everyone what is possible when that opportunity exists.

Sometimes you get to actually watch those four words come to life. Thats special! ❤️♿

Paul is also a passionate advocate for para sport, with Bulman Advisory proudly supporting para-athletes and disability sport, recognising the important role sport plays in creating opportunity, confidence and connection.

Before heading to Spain to represent Australia at the Wheelchair Handball World Championships, Hendo made sure Freedom Radio wouldn't miss a beat.

But this week isn't just another pre-recorded show...

It's an extra special episode, featuring some of the incredible participants from Freedom Play!

Every Tuesday afternoon at Leisuretime Sports Precinct in Corio, our Freedom Play community comes together to enjoy adaptive sport, make new friends, build confidence and simply have fun in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Before leaving for Spain, Hendo invited some of our amazing participants into the studio to share their stories, what they love about Freedom Play, and what being part of the Freedom family means to them.

You can’t be what you can’t see.

It’s something we believe strongly at Freedom Sports Foundation.

Last week we shared the pretty special news that our Founder, Hendo, is heading to Spain to represent Australia at the Wheelchair Handball World Championships. 🇦🇺

But for us, there’s a bigger story behind that announcement.

Every week, Hendo and the Freedom team walk into schools and communities and introduce people to adaptive sport often for the very first time. For some students, it’s their first time sitting in a sports wheelchair.
For others, it’s their first opportunity to play sport alongside a classmate with disability on genuinely equal terms.

And for a young person with disability, it might be the first time they see someone like them as an athlete, a coach, a leader or even an Australian representative.

That matters.

Hendo knows firsthand what sport can give someone.

After acquiring his disability, adaptive sport gave him competition, connection, mateship, opportunity and a new understanding of what might be possible.

That experience became part of the reason Freedom Sports Foundation exists today. And now the bloke who spends so much of his time encouraging others to see what might be possible is getting ready to pull on the green and gold himself.

There’s something pretty special about that. 💚💛

At Freedom, our motto is: See. Believe. Dream. Achieve.

We want young people to see what is possible.

To believe there is a place for them.

To dream about where sport, opportunity and a little bit of belief might take them.

And to have the chance to achieve whatever that looks like for them.

This September, our Founder gets to live those words on the world stage.
And somewhere along the way, we hope another young person sees Hendo in that green and gold and thinks: Maybe I could do that too.

That’s why representation matters.
