Long time BHSS Principal Mr Jim Tiernan had a very good reason for not coming to yesterday’s celebration. He was in Paris to watch his son Pat run in the marathon, Pat’s effort is the best ever by any Australian in the event!

Over the moon to celebrate with Bob Blackwell, Alice Blackwell, Ella Scotney, Sophie Scotney (Year 6), Shelly Blackwell, the entire and colleagues today.

The Evans family lived on the western side of Bunker's Hill on a small 80 acre block resumed from Westbrook Homestead. Thomas and Annie Evans moved there around 1886 or 1887 and they lived in a small house with a separate dirt-floor kitchen. The photo below is of the whole Evans family in late 1899 with the chimney of the kitchen just visible behind the house. The children pictured below were some of the first children to attend BHSS and Mr Thomas Evans was the first secretary to the original committee of the school.

This special board is located under the stairs in 'A Block' and shows the original pupils of the school in 1899. One family with a key role in the start of the BHSS was the Evans family, as you can see below Mr Thomas Evans was noted as the first secretary to the original committee. Three of Mr Evans's children were also the first pupils - sons Edwin and Thomas and a daughter Margaret.
