School Holidays at Tinker
Bird Painting encourages students to pick their favourite bird from our library of reference photos.

We then explore foundational drawing, learning the art of observation and deconstruction.
Followed by working with acrylics, looking at colour mixing, building up layers of paint, and slowing down the making process and encouraging a deep connection to creativity.

Join us at Tinker for a Japanese Stab Bookbinding Workshop with Book & Kettle Cottage Crafts and learn the traditional technique of binding individual sheets of paper through the spine to create your very own handmade book.

It’s a beautiful, tactile craft, part bookmaking, part stitching, and completely satisfying.

You’ll learn the basics of Japanese stab binding and create something unique to take home with you. No previous bookbinding experience needed!

Our little animal sculptures are officially finished! 🐸🦊🐍

It’s been so much fun watching these come together over the past few weeks. What started as foil and tape slowly turned into very recognisable little characters through lots of shaping, problem-solving, squishing clay and plenty of “hmm… I think we need to change that” moments.

They’re dry, finished and ready to head home this week, which means it’s time to dive into our final project for Term 3!

Sculptures are dry and ready to head home this week!

For our second project in Term 3, we’ve been exploring how to build three-dimensional form.

Students started by choosing an animal reference from our resource library, then set about reconstructing their animal using foil, tape and clay.

What I’ve really enjoyed watching through this project is how much it has encouraged students to *see*.

Rather than making assumptions about what an animal “should” look like, they’ve had to really look at their reference, noticing the shapes, structures, proportions and placement of all the different parts.

And, of course, building something in 3D rarely goes exactly to plan! There’s been plenty of problem-solving, pulling things apart, trying again and figuring out how to make an idea work.

It’s been a lot of fun supporting the students through that process and watching their little animals slowly take shape.

Now they’re ready to head home, which means we are about to start our final project for the term.
