CBA’s keeping their clients safe: SCAM Alert!

Scammers are advertising ‘free’ classes and creating fake groups on social media platforms and search engines. This is happening for a range of activities including Tai Chi, dancing, walking, or hiking.

Once you join the online group, you will receive a call or message from the group administrator. You’ll be told to download an app from a website to view and register for the free classes. The website may have a button or link to click to ‘Download’ the app from an app store but once you click, it will immediately begin downloading the malware directly onto your device. The malware can access and steal your money.

If you think you’ve been scammed, follow these steps immediately:
1. Stop all communications with the suspected scammer and block them
2. Change your password in NetBank or CommBiz and change your card PIN
3. Lock your card and check your digital wallets. Go to card settings in the CommBank app to check and deregister any devices in the list that you don’t recognise
4. Message us in the CommBank app 24/7 or call us on 13 2221, or CommBiz 13 2339

Remember to Stop 🛑, Check 🔎 and Reject ❌ anything that looks and feels suspicious.
