To look at the face of this Beautiful little Common Tree Snake you would not know it had a broken back and had either been squashed or attacked by something which made its injuries incompatible with life.
I consulted and showed people way more experienced than myself hoping I could get a better diagnosis than I knew was reality.
I was advised by two of the best that this poor little serpent needed to be humanely euthanised.
This is the part of our job that is one that makes you contemplate a whole range of emotions that most people never even realise or think about.
But it’s very real going from facing off with an Eastern Brown or a RBB to picking up a injured Common tree snake ( green tree snake) in this case that never tried to bite me or show any aggression even though it must’ve been in excruciating pain.
So I took these photos to show not the horrific injuries but the stoic beautiful face of one of many iconic Reptiles.

Absolutely a beautiful non venomous species that everybody should be so lucky to get to see and touch.

So I got a call to this farm.
I was shown into a newly constructed shed which was very well built.
There were 200 litre drums across the back wall that held chaff and grains etc for feeding horses with nutrients etc.
the tops of the drums had been either cut of or were removable but some still had the hole in the top or both holes in the top.
Some of the holes had been plugged to stop mice etc from getting into the drums.
Now this is the important part so all you people that use bins/ drums like this, always look carefully before picking up the lid and sticking your hand in to grab the scoop.
This snake wasn’t in the scoop when I first lifted the lid to assess this situation and see what sort of snake we were dealing with.
Only after I had put the lid back down and dragged the drum into the middle of the shed under the light and then gone to get a glove to try and remove a very feisty Eastern brown that was very warm and very aware that it was trapped in a 200 litre drum which was two thirds full meaning it was about chest height.
The snake was 5ft plus.
Luckily for me just when I thought I was about to have a very tricky and potentially dangerous snake encounter I had gone back to my truck and grabbed a glove and was anticipating everything that was about to happen when I lifted the lid this time.
What happened next was pure luck.

Try this App no matter where you live, all you have to do is type in your postcode and if there is a registered snake catcher in that postcode, “obviously they should have registered with the Call a Catcher App staff, then their business name should pop up in your postcode, which will save you time and hopefully give your local catcher some business.
