PLATYPUS UNVEILING ✨

Yesterday, our school community came together to officially unveil our much-anticipated Platypus Sculpture, designed and created by renowned South Australian artist Alan Sumner and funded by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport.

As said in Principal, Craig Bailey’s speech, the platypus is much more than a beautiful addition to our new site. It represents the resilience, strength and enduring identity of Warriappendi Secondary School and the Aboriginal community we serve.
The platypus featured on our original Warriappendi school sign, carved by Elders and students, and has remained an important connection to our beginnings and our journey over more than four decades. Now, it has been brought to life again in a new form at our Thebarton site.
It also connects us to Country and waterways, including Karrawirra Pari, and provides opportunities to bring together culture, Aboriginal knowledge, science, sustainability, art, storytelling and learning.
As a uniquely Australian animal known for its adaptability, the platypus is a fitting symbol for Warriappendi- representing resilience, adaptability, belonging and the ability to thrive through change.

Thank you to Alan Sumner, the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, our Elders, students, staff, families and community for helping bring this important piece of our story to life.

As Aunty Josephine so perfectly put it, Warriappendi Secondary School now feels “complete”!

Platypus Unveiling- You’re Invited!

Tomorrow, we’re excited to come together as a school community to celebrate the unveiling of our Platypus Sculpture!
We warmly invite our students, families/caregivers and wider school community to join us for an afternoon of food, connection and celebration.

SEMESTER 1 LEARNING EXHIBITION 2026 🎉

On Wednesday, we welcomed families, caregivers and community members to Warriappendi for our Semester 1 Learning Exhibition, celebrating student learning from Terms 1 and 2.
The day began with a Smoking Ceremony led by Petiola, followed by an Acknowledgement of Country. Craig Bailey and Richard Rigney-Brown also read the Acknowledgement in Kaurna as a sign of respect.
Guests then enjoyed a Principal’s address and fantastic music performances by our Middle School and Senior School students, showcasing the skills and confidence they have developed throughout the semester.
The celebrations continued with a shared BBQ lunch, along with a selection of food prepared by our Middle School Learning Expedition students as part of their semester project.
Well done to all of the students who performed on the day, and to every student who engaged in their learning throughout the semester and had their work on display. It was a great opportunity to share and celebrate the learning taking place across our school!
Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to making the day such a success. A special thank you to Amy for organising the event, and to all staff who contributed to the preparation, set up and running of the day. We appreciate your continued support of our school community.

SCHOOL VOICES OF RECONCILIATION

As part of National Reconciliation Week, our senior students took time to reflect on what reconciliation means to them and put their thoughts into words.

We were incredibly proud to have these powerful student voices featured at the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast, where their reflections were shared with an audience of more than 3,000 guests.

Well done to all students who shared their Voices of Reconciliation. Your courage to speak, reflect, and contribute to this important conversation helps build understanding and strengthens our journey towards reconciliation. 👏🏼

RECONCILIATION WEEK 2026 🤝

Last week, we proudly celebrated National Reconciliation Week through a range of meaningful activities that brought our school and community together.

On Monday, students and staff began the week by contributing to a Reconciliation banner, leaving their handprints as a symbol of connection and commitment. We were also excited to welcome Behind the News (BtN) to our school, where students shared their thoughts on what Reconciliation means to them.
On Tuesday, students learned about National Sorry Day with Auntie Josie and Nathan.
On Wednesday morning, a select number of staff, students and Governing Council members attended the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast.
On Thursday, year 7 students attended Tauondi College’s Reconciliation in the West community event.
To finish the week, on Friday, staff and students prepared and shared a lunch featuring kangaroo stew, damper and a BBQ.

Thank you to all students, staff, caregivers and community members who took part. We are grateful for the opportunity to come together, learn from one another, celebrate culture, and strengthen our connections through respect, understanding, and reconciliation. 🖤💛❤️💙🤍💚

🎥 This week, Behind the News (BtN) visited our site to film and interview students as part of their Reconciliation Week segment.

Students shared their thoughts on what Reconciliation means to them, why it is important, and how we can all contribute to creating positive change.

We are incredibly proud of the students who volunteered to be interviewed and speak about topics that are deeply important to them, their culture, and our community. Their confidence, insight and willingness to share their perspectives were a wonderful reflection of the values we strive to uphold at Warriappendi.

It was fantastic to see our students featured in the segment and sharing their voices with audiences across Australia. Well done to everyone involved, and thank you to for providing this valuable opportunity during Reconciliation Week. 🖤💛❤️
