Our Year 1 students enjoyed reading Derek by Anne Donaldson. Derek is a curious fish living in a bowl who asks big questions about the universe, bubbles, and food raining from above, while wondering why he is alone.

With its playful story, lovable characters and plenty of heart, Derek is a beautiful reminder that being yourself is something to celebrate.

When students listen, follow instructions, and avoid disrupting lessons, teachers can spend more time teaching and less time managing behaviour. This creates a calm, respectful classroom where everyone has the opportunity to learn, ask questions, and do their best.
