It has been awhile since we put a post on FB. Back in December we decided to cancel student visits because of the threat of bushfires. Fortunately, over January and February, our beautiful town and the Kiewa River Valley, have remained safe from fires although we did get many days of smoke.
Now we must consider the Coronavirus and again have postponed student bookings.

The puppies miss going for walks with our student guests.

Wataru is on his way to Melbourne. He has spent 5 weeks with us in Mount Beauty and will have 2 more weeks in Melbourne, before he returns to Japan.
Over the past week he has been busy spending time at the fish farm, the dairy farm, going to the cattle sale yards with Don, walking to Pebble Beach and learning to throw a boomerang with Caleb.
Wataru loved taking photographs of everything, especially birds and he also cooked a delicious Japanese soup, Guyjiru for us for lunch. Even though he was tired, at the end of each day, he still wanted to help at After School Care.
We had a great BBQ farewell party on Saturday night and then Wataru and Caleb shared pancakes and fruit for breakfast.

Wataru is having such a good time visiting farms and using his camera. He will have so many memories by looking back at his photos.
Last weekend we were delighted to have lunch prepared by Wataru. He made soumen and It was so delicious. This week he visited and helped Hans on his small mixed farm. There were lots of jobs for Wataru. He helped trim the hooves of a sheep and tried to make friends with a donkey.
There was a day spent on the deer farm, a day on the horse farm, an afternoon at Falls Creek, the ski resort, and regular visits to After School Care.
On Saturday the Antique Fly-in at Mt Beauty meant there were lots of things to see and people to meet.Wataru enjoyed getting up close to the aeroplanes and particularly the antique cars that were also on show.

Our trip home from Anglesea was most interesting. We showed Wataru the silo paintings that are very famous in Victoria. The wheat silos are big and the paintings can be seen very easily.They are paintings of famous people and popular animals.
Over the past few days, Wataru has spent some time at a wildlife sanctuary. He had an interesting experience helping to clean the cages and prepare the food. The kangaroos were very friendly and the wombats were happy for him to be up close and hold them

We welcomed Wataru, from Japan, earlier this week.. He wants to study to be a vet so we will be planning lots of visits to animal locations.
He had been with us for only one day when we had to head off on a long road trip from Mt Beauty to Anglesea, for a meeting with friends.
We are now on our way home and Wataru is enjoying the many varied views of road travel and he is constantly using his camera. We checked out the Ned Kelly Museum at Glenrowan, and he has enjoyed a BBQ, visited the ocean, walked the puppies and done lots of talking.

We said 'Goodbye' to Lisa at the weekend. She spent 2 weeks in Mount Beauty and many days of work experience at Treats Cafe.
There was a farm visit where she was able to enjoy being up close to the farm horses and she also enjoyed having a swing.
Some friends came to her farewell party and Lisa wanted steak, so they all enjoyed hamburgers.

Lisa has spent her first week in Mount Beauty experiencing Aussie culture. The decorated trees in the street, and the king parrots on the balcony, captured her attention and then on a trip to Beechworth, there was some beautiful scenery and the opportunity to eat a meat pie, Aussie style. Catching fish for dinner was a very successful activity.

Moemi and Nanami went home to Japan yesterday. We had a great farewell party the night before and both ladies gave a farewell speech to thank all those who have helped them have a good time in Mount Beauty.
Before they left on the aeroplane at 4.00, we met Lisa who arrived in Albury at 12.30. We all had a noodle lunch and then the three ladies went shopping. I think there was extra heavy baggage at check in time.
Lisa will be with us for two weeks. She received an excited welcome from Elly and Smithy.

We have had a busy weekend. Nanami arrived from Japan and she and Moemi have already had some fun together.
Friends came round for a welcome curry party for Nanami last night and the girls made a Japanese curry to add to the buffet.
An afternoon in Beechworth gave them an opportunity to eat a delicious Aussie meat pie and buy souvenirs. With the arrival of lots of snow on the mountains, we could all take some great photos.

Moemi has been with us for two weeks. She has spent time on the dairy farm, helping at milking time, and enjoyed a day visiting a couple of beef farms.
At After School Care she makes friends and talks to the students.
At the Community Market she walked around with the puppies but then met another dog. She made friends with him under a decorated street tree.
It was a beautiful day on Sunday when Moemi went for her first horse ride - a 2 hour ride along the Kiewa Valley.

We had a farewell party last night for Daichi and it was also a welcome for Moemi who arrived this week.
Daichi has spent a month with us and when he first arrived he only wanted a tiny spoon of icecream on his dessert. He slowly began to enjoy it and at his party he asked for "Lots of icecream".
We have a picture of Daichi feeding the birds and saying "Goodbye" to them.
He and Moemi enjoyed a trip to Beechworth but Daichi didn't want a meat pie. Moemi had one and bravely ate it Aussie style, with her hands.
Moemi attends an agricultural high school in Japan and has come here to study Aussie cattle. She will spend lots of time having experiences on farms.
