We've had an amazing time working with ABC Education on making their Story Time video library Auslan accessible.
Within their website, you'll find a number of children's picture books read in Auslan! We're proud to have supported the ABC with such a wonderful resource for parents, children, and anyone who takes care of children.

I just want to take this opportunity to thank the FPSDC community for your support over the past six years, and for the well wishes you have given me during my last week as Assistant Principal. Furlong Park is a special place and I am so honoured to have had a small part in our students’ education and lives. It has been a privilege to be surrounded by such caring, charismatic and positive children each day.
Thank you,
Shelley

Yesterday Room 3 celebrated 100 days of school! They did lots of learning tasks focused around the number 100 and, by the looks of it, had loads of fun together! Happy 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ days, Furlong Park! 🎉

It may be Pyjama Day for our 3yo group, but it’s business as usual for Oscar, who loves to independently put everything in the EEP into alphabetical order, and his friends. We might be ready for bed early, but there’s loads of learning to do first!

At the end of each term, the students work in different groupings, and with different teachers and ES, to celebrate the end of that term’s inquiry unit. This week our students donned imaginary white coats and became chemical scientists, using all their new knowledge to create hypotheses and conduct experiments. Well done, team!

The students have had a wonderful time developing their swimming skills over the past fortnight! Thanks to for having us, and to for training six of their instructors.

An important part of our reading program, in line with ‘science of reading’ pedagogy, is our approach to teaching phonics and phonological awareness. We have a unique dual approach which supports the bilingual nature and needs of our cohort. Students learn auditory knowledge and skills such as phonemes (letter sounds) and blending, and engage in an evidence based intervention called ‘Fingerspelling Our Way to Reading’ (FOWTR).
FOWTR has been specifically designed - at University of Colorado - to supplement the literacy curriculum of Deaf and HoH children, providing a pathway to decoding words and recognising print via a relationship between fingerspelt and printed words.
While FOWTR was created primarily for learners not accessing speech sounds, our data is demonstrating the benefits of our holistic approach, and we are grateful to Brenda Schick & at and the Victorian Deaf Education Institute for their training and support.

Are you looking to build your capacity as a Teacher or Educational Support (ES) in unique and exciting ways?
Are you a flexible and enthusiastic thinker who is committed to their professional development?
Are you excited by the prospect of being part of a close-knit community where you can build strong relationships with staff and students?
Then this is the school for you!

Like all of our classes, Room 9 is assisted by the technology of the Phonak Roger system, which features in all of the learning spaces across our school. Each morning the students diligently set up their desk mics, provide the neck mic to their teacher (or in this case, being worn by our student, Lord) and connect their own hearing devices to the microphone system. We are so grateful to have our friend Roger around! If you’d like to learn more, we were featured on YouTube after receiving the funding for the technology (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztU00CWN6wY). Word of Mouth Technology

Sebastian likes to read graphic novels while eating breakfast supplied by the Victorian Government and Foodbank’s School Breakfast Program. After early wake ups and a bus trip to school, many of our students are glad to have a free breakfast to start the day… Don’t get in between our kids and their love for mini milk drinks!
