Playing with cars, stretching slime, digging in the sand, squishing Play-Doh, collecting dried leaves, exploring bees, and building with blocks... it might look like simple fun, but every activity is building something important.

Through hands-on play, children develop fine motor skills, creativity, problem-solving, language, confidence and curiosity about the world around them.

At Meadow Lane, every play experience has a purpose.

One caterpillar sparked a whole world of curiosity in our kindy room.

From sequencing The Very Hungry Caterpillar story to exploring the butterfly life cycle through puzzles, books and discussion, the children have been learning through real-world discovery and play.

Now we’re all waiting excitedly to watch it become a butterfly. 🐛🦋

Children regulate best when they feel connected.

At Meadow Lane, we focus on building strong relationships with educators, peers and the environment - because when children feel safe and like they belong, they’re more able to learn, listen and grow.

At two years old, children are learning through play, imitation and exploration.

From feeding pretend bees to using fine motor skills and playing alongside others, these moments help children build confidence, sensory awareness and early social skills.

At Meadow Lane, we keep screen time minimal and intentional.

Instead of using screens to fill the day, children are encouraged to explore, move, play, connect and build real-world skills.

When screens are used, it’s mindfully - for things like yoga, dance or meaningful learning moments.

Every pick, pinch, pour and write is building something bigger.

From playing with plants to writing, threading, sensory play and construction, children use their hands to strengthen fine motor skills, coordination and creativity every day.

It may look like play, but these hands-on experiences are laying the foundation for writing, self-care, problem-solving and lifelong learning.

Emotional regulation starts with helping children understand how their body feels.

Using the Zones of Regulation, children learn to recognise when they feel sad, angry, excited or calm - and practise strategies to return to feeling safe, focused and ready to learn.

Building focus doesn't require worksheets it starts with play.

Here are 3 simple activities to try at home:
Complete a puzzle together.
Build with blocks or magnetic tiles.
Try playdough, drawing or threading activities.

These playful experiences help develop attention, problem-solving and fine motor skills while keeping learning fun.

Play-based learning starts with children’s interests.

Whether it’s dinosaurs, potions or nature play, educators use intentional teaching and provocation spaces to build social skills, communication, creativity and confidence.
