Working to break down barriers of perception is so incredibly important for our future. We need everyone on board with these skills for the health and longevity of our society. That's why I support women in stem!
First step parents: Mathematics is not hard, It is a skill. One that takes time, attention and effort, but can give great rewards. It can empower you to create, teach you to be a problem solver, a quantitative and critical thinker. Children pick up on your cues and you saying something is hard means they believe it and that it will be too hard for them also.
Confidence comes from practice, but it also comes from you. Parents, family and friends. So next time Mathematics enters discussion with youth around consider carefully how you frame your experience as it could very well shape theirs.

Our Public Schools do an amazing job considering the funding given to them and private schools continually achieve outstanding results, but grades and standardised testing can encourage student to pass tests, rather than learn and grow. I hope we see more research/ examples of this kind of open form system in the future that focuses on critical thinking. If it is proven to be viable and effective I would love to see this as the future of schooling.
No grades, no timetable: Berlin school turns teaching upside down Pupils choose their own subjects and motivate themselves, an approach some say should be rolled out across Germany
