Good Morning Homeschoolers!

It has been a while since we have had the time to talk to you all, and we are aware there are some who are still awaiting replies to messages or emails.

For this we apologise!

When we created this organisation, we never anticipated the need or size of the venture. For many years now we have battled to keep moving forward and at times have not had the time to service the needs of everyone.

That said, we are not going anywhere! Instead, we want to go bigger and better and continue to build on our services. However for that to happen we need help and are looking for volunteers to ride this journey with the existing team.

If you have experience in social media, Microsoft products or IT please reach out via email address below.

We are also looking for contributors to help share or create content relevant to the home-schooling community and people who can spare a little time helping our members with registration or reporting in the various states.

I can't express enough how much HSSA has grown through the last 3 years and how important it is we don't give up.

The schooling system is failing our kids! We are here to help home-schooling families to Give their children a better chance. But we need help to do that.

Welcome all new homeschoolers to 2022. This may be a scary start for some, feeling unsure, inexperienced or overwhelmed. Just breathe and take each day as a learning experience. Tell your children this is new for you aswell and you will learn together. Reach out to homeschool groups in your area for advice, socialising or strength to get thru the day. You can do this. It will take time to get you mojo, you will have good days and bad. Just remember you have made this decision to homeschool for a reason. Good luck everyone.

Hello Fellow Homeschoolers,

Again we see another crazy year run away, and another running at us. With all the lockdowns, restrictions and shutdowns, our services have been stretched like Gumby and snapped like a tea-towel so many times, we need to ask for help!

Our network and platforms are solid, our subscriptions and membership has expanded, but we don't have the hands to continue to develop our services further, or to distribute what we have quickly. So we are looking to build a team to take on some of the operations of HSSA.

If you are passionate about Homeschooling, a former teacher out of work, or a parent wanting to lend a hand, PLEASE HELP US! We need to build a team that can help us support the enormous homeschool family Australia has. Regardless of your background or skills, we can use your help. All that you need to be able to volunteer with us is access to the internet, a tablet or laptop/PC (phone will work for some tasks) and basic knowledge of the internet. No special software or hardware needed.

We also need former teachers or educators to help us develop a wider variety of both online and live courses for homeschoolers, with a focus on livestream/Teams based learning for senior students. If this sounds like you please reach out.

Hello Again Fellow Homeschoolers!

Well what a few months it has been!

The rest of the country has now had a crash course in what it is we do as homeschooling families, and boy has it changed peoples opinions of us.

I apologise for not having spent more time online posting and pushing HSSA (This page) but life has put many things in our way. We do this as volunteers and at our peak there were three of us and we struggled to keep it all going.

From June 1st, we will be undergoing a big push forward, starting with updating our digital platform and subscription service. We have also recently received access to the minecraft platform many have asked about and will be deploying that from Monday as well.

We would appreciate the assistance if anyone is keen to be involved in the network. It isn’t rocket science and doesn’t require any significant skills etc, just a passion for homeschooling, children and getting the best out of the homeschool experience. You will need some minor computer and Internet skills and have access to a laptop or desktop as mobile isn’t compatible with our admin platform.

Hey Hey Follow Homeschoolers...

We are again this weekend making a big push forward in updating and completing registration details for our new families. If you haven't received your details as yet, you should have them by Sunday afternoon. Please advise if you fail to receive on Sunday and we will go through your registration.

We do apologise for the delay's we have been experiencing. It is a process that takes some time, however in the future we hope to see it completed upon you registering on our site.

We will update you again Sunday with the results of our upgrades.

Hey Hey Fellow Homeschoolers.

As we come to the end of term one and go into the school holiday period I wanted to post some thoughts as you go into the break.

First of all, PLEASE TAKE CARE ON OUR ROADS! This time of year is madness on our roads, and if you are around the South east QLD area, the Commonwealth games are going to make it worse. I can say with personal experience that these periods and the accidents that can occur don't only effect the people involved in the crash but the people around it. A simple lapse in judgement can be the difference between life and death, and you have so many lives in your hands when you drive!

The other thing I wanted to talk about is the effects of bullying and some of my personal thoughts. As a teen I was very tall and a very fit and active student. Today.... not so much lol. All those years ago, even with my height and physicality, I was bullied! Not often but it did happen. Back then it was comments about my girlfriend, or my height, basically just words with a little punch here and there.
Stark contrasts to the world of today where much of the bullying is online and spread to hundreds of people.
I recent read of a young girl who has been bullied and attacked for her difficulties. It is a disgusting and painful thing to have happen to you at the best of times, but I want to spread the thoughts about bullying outside of school.
Our sons, spend a great deal of time at our local Library and spend a couple of hours there on their own while we walk down the road for coffee. They are well behaved and respectful and always have great manners. Occasionally they will tell us about kids swearing or being nasty and even snatching game controllers or being physical with other kids. This is a problem that seems to be becoming more prevalent as life goes on.

Bullying is NOT only a school based issue and unfortunately for many homeschool students who have left schooling environment because of bullying, it is creeping its way into the homeschooling environment as well. We keep our kids away from the mainstream schooling to avoid these issues and for it to work its way into homeschooling is alarming.

I know that there are many varying reasons for bullying and many of them stem from family circumstances or environment. While this may be a reason it is not an excuse.

My fear for our children is that in those time when your homeschooler is on their own or with a friend, they are still at risk of bullying! So to the end, I would suggest that while on the holiday break, if you are in a situation where you can sit back and watch your children interacting with others from a distance, please take the time to watch how they react to other children. Make a few mental notes on things like how they react to stronger personalities or groups of "alpha" kids, how they interact with crowds etc. Then talk to them!

The only way that we as a society are ever going to tackle the bullying epidemic in our schooling system is educating our children with strong and solid methods to deal with it. Be it giving them the tools to defend themselves against physical attacks, or by giving them outlets to deal with online attacks, we must find ways for them to deal with whatever level of issue they have. By watching them with others, you may find the solutions, but at very least you need to keep talking to them and educating them against the scourge of bullying in society!

Most of all....... Love them, hug them and tell them every single day you love them and are ALWAYS there for them!

Well we have reached another hump day! We are happy to say that this fine hump day is being used with ease for our members with their shiny new Microsoft accounts and edu domain email addresses, which if you have been following us are completely FREE!. Thats right they are free! Head over to our website at www.edu.asn.au and follow the registration links to our Digital Network Services registration and we will send you an email account for each of your student children and of course an account for teacher parents.

You also get a free MS Office account to use as you please!

So get moving and get your hands on a new email and software to make your hump day a little easier!

Hey Hey Fellow Homeschoolers,

What a great start to the week. We have worked through the enormous pile of email address applications and processed almost all of them.

Details of your edu.asn.au email accounts and microsoft login details have been sent the email address you REGISTERED with, NOT your new edu email address. Please check your junk and spam folders to be sure you receive the edtails.

You may have received an email asking for further details. This will be because of our strict privacy and safety policies. Each email address is created using the FULL first and last names of both teachers and students. If you have used an abbreviation like Sue instead of Susan or Kel instead of Kelly, we would have sent you a request for full name details.

There are also a few floating around that have just asked for a student email address that have not supplied ANY names, and some that have not provided email addresses. We need ALL boxes filled in correctly on the registration or it will not be accepted.
