PRINCIPAL’S PERSPECTIVES
As we come to the end of a wonderful Term 1 at Scone Grammar School, we reflect with gratitude on a season filled with rich learning, connection, and celebration across our community.

This term has been marked by many special moments, including the creativity and enthusiasm shown through music, performance, and singing at the Kia Ora Music Camp.

Our students also deepened their understanding of culture as they explored Wonnarua traditions through engaging, hands-on workshops.

The whole school demonstrated outstanding spirit and encouragement during our Cross-Country event, and we finished the term on a joyful note with our Easter Parade, full of colour, fun, and community warmth.

As we approach Easter, I encourage all members of our community to take time to reflect on its meaning and the gift given to us through Jesus’ sacrifice and resurrection. It is a time of hope, renewal, and gratitude.

I wish all families a safe, restful, and refreshing holiday break.

At Scone Grammar School, we remain committed to fostering learning, growth, and a spirit of care and service in our students.

It is wonderful to see these values lived out across the school, and I look forward with optimism to all that Term 2 will bring.

Next term promises more opportunities for connection and celebration.

We are excited about our upcoming P&F Fete and Markets on Saturday 9 May here at SGS, and we look forward to being involved in our wider communities ANZAC Day ceremonies as we honour and remember together.

I also warmly encourage parents to attend the upcoming ‘Safe on Social’ on April 28 at 6pm, the insights covered into social media and its impact on young people are incredibly valuable and relevant for all families today.

‘WHERE THERE’S A WILL’
Students from SGS joined peers from across the region in a powerful Youth Leadership Academy Australia experience.

SGS students enjoyed taking part in the Where There’s a Will - student Leadership initiative.

From meeting new people to building strong connections, students embraced every moment.

Highlights included a powerful Student Leadership Conference, teamwork at Darling Square Library designing a future Wellbeing and Leadership Day, a device free dinner full of real conversation, and a fun Sydney scavenger hunt.

Students now look ahead to continuing their work next term at Muswellbrook High School.

Thank you to WTAW for an incredible opportunity to grow, connect, and lead.

GREAT BARRIER REEF
Year 11 and 12 Geography students recently travelled to the Great Barrier Reef in Cairns as part of their Senior Geography fieldwork.

The trip directly supported key learning areas including Global Sustainability, Ecosystems and Global Biodiversity, along with case studies on coral reefs and banana production.

Students snorkelled at Fitzroy Island and the outer reef, observed diverse marine ecosystems, and took part in hands on scientific investigations into reef health, including threats such as the crown of thorns starfish and coral regeneration strategies.

They also contributed to real world citizen science by submitting data to a university database.

A visit to an ecoganic banana plantation provided valuable insight into sustainable agriculture, linking directly to their global economic studies.

This four-day experience delivered powerful, real-world learning that cannot be replicated in the classroom.

Thank you to our dedicated teachers for making this opportunity possible, and a special thanks to Mr Garland for accompanying the trip.

Awarded an SGS All-Rounder Scholarship for 2026, Hailee embraced the application process and came out stronger, more confident, and clearer on her goals.

From basketball and archery to art, writing club and a passion for STEM, she’s making the most of every opportunity.

Her advice… “Just apply and give it a go, as you never know what might happen.”

THE LONG PADDOCK
A new pilot Wellbeing initiative is coming to SGS in Term 2, taking learning beyond the classroom and onto a local farm.

Developed by former SGS Student Wellbeing Officer Mrs Brayshaw and former SGS employee Mr Crowther, The Long Paddock gives students the chance to learn in a different way.

Each week, a small group of students will spend a day working with animals, building practical skills, and enjoying time in nature.

Students will take part in everyday farm activities while developing teamwork, communication, and self belief in a calm and supportive environment.

The pilot program includes around five students attending one day per week, with transport and lunch provided. The day is recognised as part of their school learning and supported by SGS wellbeing staff including Mrs Archibald.

While the first group has been selected, this is just the beginning. If successful, more students will have the opportunity to take part later in the year, building skills, confidence, and a sense of purpose.

JOYFUL EASTER PARADE
SGS was buzzing with colour and community as Primary students, parents, and staff came together for the Easter Parade to celebrate the end of Term 1.

Students proudly showcased creative Easter hats made from reused and recycled materials, showing off their artistic skills and commitment to sustainability.

This focus on recycling made the parade not just fun but also a great way to care for our environment.

Families enjoyed the parade then relaxed on the grass with picnic boxes from the school canteen, soaking in the beautiful school grounds.

A huge thank you to all the teachers and staff whose hard work made this event possible and to our families and students for making the day so special.

It was a fantastic way to finish Term 1 filled with joy, creativity, and community spirit.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy Easter break- Term 1 ends this Thursday.

DECATHON OF LEARNING
SGS students delivered a terrific performance at the recent Da Vinci Decathlon, demonstrating both academic excellence and strong teamwork across a wide range of disciplines.

Hosted at Bishop Tyrrell Anglican College, the prestigious competition challenges students to think critically and creatively through ten demanding subject areas, including: Engineering, Mathematics, Code Breaking, Art and Poetry, Science, English, Ideation, Creative Producers, Cartography and Legacy.

We sent six teams from Years 5 to 10, with each group rising to the challenge of complex problems designed to test higher order thinking skills, problem solving ability and creativity.

Throughout the event, students demonstrated perseverance, collaboration and a strong commitment to learning, earning praise as excellent representatives of their school.

The competition proved to be a valuable opportunity for students to extend their thinking beyond the classroom, engage with like-minded peers and experience the excitement of academic challenge at a high level.

The students achieved an impressive 11 placings across the six teams, reflecting both the depth of talent and the dedication of the students and their teachers.

The results highlight not only academic success but also the importance of opportunities like the Da Vinci Decathlon in inspiring young learners.

Thank you Mr Dib and fellow SGS Teachers for coordinating this opportunity for students.

RACING AHEAD
SGS year 11 student, Jackson S recently reached an exciting milestone in his motor-racing journey, competing in his very first circuit race in a car at Shell V Motorsport Park in South Australia.

In a weekend full of highs, challenges and valuable lessons as he stepped up to a new level of competition.

The first practice sessions were strong, giving Jackson a solid foundation heading into qualifying.

However, a red flag on the first lap meant he only managed one flying lap, placing him 15th on the grid.

Race 1 was all about gaining experience - he crossed the line in 14th place but was later given a 15-second penalty for an on-track incident, dropping him back to 18th.

Race 2 showed just how quickly Jackson is adapting. Starting from 18th, he charged through the field to finish 9th on track - an impressive drive.

Unfortunately, a post-race weight check found the car to be slightly underweight, resulting in a disqualification and a back-of-grid start for the final race.

In Race 3, Jackson again pushed forward through the pack before being spun but showed resilience to recover and finish 13th.

While the results were a mixed bag, the opportunity marked an important step forward.

Jackson gained invaluable experience and proved he can compete at this level. He is already looking ahead to Round 2 with confidence and determination.

CIS SOCCER
There is something special about a team that refuses to give up, no matter the scoreline.

That spirit was on full display when the SGS Football team stepped onto the pitch to face Hunter Valley Grammar School in the CIS Plate competition.

HVGS brought strong energy, but SGS matched it with determination and a real sense of unity. Every pass and every sprint showed just how much effort the team was willing to put in for one another.

It was not just about the result. It was about representing the school with pride and giving everything until the very end.

While the final score did not fall in SGS’s favour, the performance told a much bigger story.

The players kept pushing, encouraging each other, and showing resilience that cannot be measured on a scoreboard.

Sport is as much about character as it is about winning, and this match was a perfect example of that.

The SGS team showed teamwork, perseverance, and a positive attitude that will carry them forward into future fixtures. These are the qualities that build great teams and even better athletes.

A special thank you goes to Mr Keith for his support on the day, not only for driving the team to the match but also for guiding and encouraging the players from the sidelines.
