Our little creative thinkers used Duplo to create birds, exploring shapes, colours, balance, and design along the way.

"Look, my bird is in the tree!"

The children continued to create their own feathered inspired species as they placed them carefully around the tree. It’s amazing to see where creativity can take flight when children are given the freedom to build, experiment, and create!

Welcome to Jurassic World!

Our little explorers stepped into a prehistoric world, using their imaginations to create their very own Jurassic adventure! From stomping dinosaurs to mysterious landscapes, the children transformed their play space into a world full of discovery, storytelling, and wonder. 🌋🦕

Through imaginative play, children develop creativity, language, problem solving skills, and the confidence to bring their ideas to life.

Painting what we see, discovering what we notice!

Observational painting gives children the opportunity to slow down, look closely, and capture the world around them in their own unique way. Whether they’re painting a tiny bug, a beautiful flower, or something found in nature, children are developing concentration, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for detail. 🐞🌸

Each child has their own interpretation of how they see their world and express their ideas with their own brush strokes.

On a cool Spring morning, a child asked his educator,
"Are you warm?" Responding truthfully, the educator said, "No, I'm not."

The child ventured off to collect sticks and returned to arranged them carefully beside the educator. He informed her it was a campfire. "Do you feel better now?" he asked in earnest with a small smile.

Children amaze us each day with their kindness and capacity to build empathy towards others in their own unique way. Interactions like these demonstrate the value Hopskotch Kindergarten Early Learning place on building relationships with each child that enters our doors.

The children have been exploring the natural environment, showing increasing awareness of the tiny critters and crawlers that share our space. 🕷️

Educators challenge the children's thinking by asking them 'How do you create a spiderweb?'

They worked individually and collaboratively to create their webs and shared their thoughts on web building once they were done.

"Webs are a mess!"
"It was super hard."
"It was a little bit tricky for me."
"It is a scam!"
"A scam is like a trick I get scammed. I think this was a scam!"
"It must take them all a long time."
"It must take them 59 hundred years."
"Maybe only a day."

Reflecting on the complexities of web making, the children practice empathy as they consider how long building a web would take a spider. This is one of the small ways educators help build capacity for children's understanding of their world. 🕸️

Enhancing imaginative and dramatic play, local flowers and coloured water were intentionally added to the outdoor kitchen.
We wondered what conversations would unfold in this space and what ideas the children would develop.

By creating an inviting and aesthetically pleasing environment, we provided opportunities for the children to explore, experiment and engage in meaningful interactions with one another. Through their shared play, the children collaborated, exchanged ideas and co-constructed their learning.

Transferring their knowledge from our ongoing bird inquiry, a group of children used wire as a creative medium to express their ideas and share their thinking.
Through this open-ended experience, they explored different ways to represent the birds they have been observing, demonstrating imagination, problem-solving and a deepening understanding of the world around them.
