Transferring their knowledge from our ongoing bird inquiry, a group of children used wire as a creative medium to express their ideas and share their thinking.
Through this open-ended experience, they explored different ways to represent the birds they have been observing, demonstrating imagination, problem-solving and a deepening understanding of the world around them.

"Posting" objects into containers is a play urge for babies and toddlers as they learn about the world around them. Educators offer materials that encourage infants to experiment, explore, and form their own hypotheses through play.

Curiosity, intrigue and excitement as our 2–3-year-olds encountered a collection of metal loose parts.
Open-ended materials invite children to explore, experiment, create and make meaning through their own ideas and theories. With no predetermined outcome, each child is empowered to investigate at their own pace, developing confidence, creativity, problem-solving skills and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Educators create spaces in the outdoor environment that invite children to notice natural phenomena of light and shadow. Intentionally setting up a drawing table under the canopy of our trees, surrounded by fallen autumn leaves, provides opportunities for children to document their observations and wonderings. It allows them to pause, take in their surroundings, reflect and draw connections to the earth.

As we recognise and celebrate Reconciliation Week, Hopskotch Toongabbie has united as a service, with children, educators and families working together to create our own Sea of Hearts.

This symbolic display represents our ongoing commitment, dedication and responsibility towards reconciliation each and every day.

Exploring what reconciliation means to us, the children have used a variety of languages and mark-making techniques to document their thoughts, ideas and understandings.
Together, these hearts reflect the voices of our community and our shared journey towards reconciliation.

At Hopskotch we believe exposure to seasons and natural elements is crucial for young children to develop lifelong respect and proactive attitudes to the environment.

And how lucky are we with what our environment has to offer us?!
Our children are immersed in our natural environments, inspired by the colours, textures, sounds and experiences nature provides each day. Through outdoor exploration, children build curiosity, creativity and a meaningful connection to the world around them while developing an appreciation and sense of care for the environment.

We are so grateful for the relationship we have built with the Bungaree Community Garden, having opportunities to visit them monthly over the past couple of years.
The children at our Toongabbie service have had the opportunity to build relationships, contribute to the community and revisit their impact to a space; recently harvesting the radishes they had previously planted.
We would like to thank the volunteers who give up their own time to create this space in our community.
