Looking back at 2025 (and forward to 2026!) 🌳
In 2025, we created a dedicated North West Outreach Program, connecting with Prep to Year 6 students through engaging, curriculum-aligned learning experiences. The program brought forest science and geography to life through a Forest Museum - inspiring curiosity about local landscapes, ecosystems, a...

A lucky break in this windy weather allowed us to work with some wonderful Year 7/8 students on their Biological Sciences curriculum at the Chauncy Vale Wildlife Sanctuary. These programs focussed on classification, fieldwork skills and, of course, getting out in and enjoying forests. No better way to enjoy this wild spring weather than heading out on a Geography field trip!
Term 3 was a busy period for the FEF with year 9 field trips, helping students to connect to local places, learn new skills and understand the ways people interact with forest landscapes.

We were so fortunate to spend Schools Tree Day planting at Bothwell District High School! A perfect day with an incredible group of students and staff.
Thanks to all those involved, including Sustainable Timber Tasmania and Private Forests Tasmania. We can't wait to see these plants grow and transform the school farm.

🌱🌾 Trees on farms = Learning in the paddock! 🌳📏
Year 10 Launceston Church Grammar School agriculture students swapped the classroom for the paddock for a learning day exploring the benefits of trees on farms last week.
Hosted by Private Forests Tasmania, in partnership with the Forest Education Foundation and Campbell Town farmer John Taylor, students saw first-hand how trees contribute to erosion control, shelter, carbon storage, increased biodiversity and farm productivity.
From walking through a three-year-old radiata pine shelterbelt to measuring carbon in 20-year-old plantation trees, the students connected science, sustainability and future career opportunities in agriculture and forestry 🌿💡
As one student put it: “John chose to plant trees for the future, even though he won’t get to use the money they make - it’s for his children.”
