Today, on Early Childhood Educators’ Day, we want to recognise and celebrate the wonderful educators who make Sandgate Kids what it is.

Across our three centres, our educators bring so much skill, care, patience and heart to their work every day. The relationships they build, the experiences they create and the way they support each child to feel safe, confident and valued have an incredible impact.

Our educators genuinely care about what they do and the children and families they support.

Today was our opportunity to say a heartfelt thank you to our entire Sandgate Kids team, with a special lunch and some well-deserved gifts as a small token of our appreciation.

To all our educators, thank you for everything you bring to Sandgate Kids. We value you, we appreciate you, and we are incredibly grateful for the difference you make every single day.

Over the past 18 months, the Sandgate Kids Committee has been working behind the scenes to advocate for improved road safety on Brighton Road to help keep our children, families and staff safe.

In February 2025, the Committee wrote to Councillor Jared Cassidy and the Deagon Ward Office outlining our concerns and requesting a review of road safety measures. We followed up again in June to keep the conversation moving.

Following a site assessment, Brisbane City Council responded in October with a proposed package of improvements, including:

- larger and more prominent 40 km/h speed signs;
- additional children's warning signs;
- new "40" road markings;
- relocating the existing 60 km/h sign further away from the centre to reinforce the 40 km/h zone;
- new edge line markings to better define parking and narrow the traffic lane; and
- updated line markings to improve visibility and reduce sign clutter.

We're pleased that many of these improvements have now been completed and are already making the area more noticeable to motorists. It's encouraging to see these changes implemented, and we'd like to thank everyone who supported this advocacy along the way.

As always, we'd love to hear from our Sandgate Kids community. If you have any feedback about the road safety changes, or ideas for further improvements, please speak with a Committee member or let your Centre Manager know, and they'll be happy to pass your comments on. The Committee remains committed to working with Council to advocate for the safest possible environment for all of our children, families and staff as they come and go from our Brighton Road centre each day.

Aurora has been a committed educator for 18 years. She loves coming to work every day and cares deeply about our community!

Celebrating 18 incredible years of Aurora!

Today we celebrate a very special member of our Sandgate Kids family Miss Aurora, who has dedicated an amazing 18 years to our centre and the Sandgate community. ❤️

Over the years, Aurora has made a truly lasting impact on hundreds of children and families, providing care, guidance, love and support through some of the most important years of a child’s life.

Aurora is a true pillar of quality education and care. Her dedication, kindness, patience and incredible work ethic shine through every day, and her contribution to our centre is something we are incredibly grateful for.

For 18 years, she has watched children grow, supported families, created beautiful memories and helped shape the early years of so many children in our community.
Aurora, thank you for your unwavering dedication, your caring heart and everything you have given to Sandgate Kids. We are so lucky to have you as part of our team and so proud to celebrate this incredible milestone with you!

National Reconciliation Week 2026 has been running this week, from 27 May to 3 June.

This year’s theme, All In, is a call for all Australians to step away from the sidelines, act for change, and commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day.

Across our three centres, we recognise this week as an opportunity to continue creating space for children to learn, listen and build respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and continuing connection to Country.

We know that stories, conversations and everyday learning in early childhood matter. We’re proud to play a part in helping children grow with respect, curiosity and care.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mums, grandmothers, carers, and special women in our Sandgate Kids community across Brighton Road, Nash Street, and C&K.

We loved each of the celebrations with you all across the centers. We celebrate you and all the love, care, patience, and joy you bring to your families every day. On behalf of all our staff and committee, we hope you enjoy a beautiful day filled with the things you love most.

Our children and educators have had so much fun creating special artwork and surprises, and we hope you enjoy opening each thoughtful gift made with so much love.
