Our four year old Kinders went on an adventure this morning to Eastbourne Primary school to participate in the easter bonnet parade. The children gathered in the classroom before heading across to the school where they went up on stage showing off their bonnets they worked on, before getting a special visit from the easter bunny. After admiring the work of all the school students, we headed back to Kinder for morning tea then made our own butter to enjoy on some hot cross buns.

The children enjoyed the community connection and worked on building a sense of belonging and comfort in a new environment.

Our three-year-old Kinder children started their water safety program with Cindy and Alyshia from Yawa.

The children learnt about what to do if they find themselves in trouble in the water, how to call for help, what to do if a friend is in trouble and who to call in an emergency.

We learned about life jackets, when to use them and how they help us in the water and how to use them if we find ourselves in the water.

Water safety is an important element to our beach Kinder program to ensure children learn to be aware of their surroundings and how we can take care around water. Through beach Kinder we look for the children to build on a sense of community investigate ideas and complex concepts relevant to their community and participate in community projects.

Seawinds children enjoyed celebrating and recognising Harmony week last week, where children learnt about inclusion of everyone who shares the space every day.

We discussed “being together” We are the same but different. We should respect one another and according to Adam “be sensible.”

At Seawinds ELC & Kindergarten we embed practices that promote children's sense of belonging, connectedness and wellbeing.

Our Leafy Sea dragons have been working hard in our literacy corner to develop letter recognition by spelling out their names. Finnley started searching the basket of letter to find the letter F, as Finnley searched he held up each letter telling me a word that begun with that letter until finally he came across the letter F with excitement announcing to the group " Yes F for Finnley" then proceeded to trace the letters of his name, Lucy and Elena joined Finnley where they sat discussing each letter in their names.

Early Literacy includes the skills your child learns before they learn to read and write and this is developed through Letter knowledge, phonological awareness and print knowledge, At Seawinds ELC and Kindergarten we provide a literacy rich environment that is organized in spaces and experiences to promote children's engagement in learning opportunities through play and intentional teaching. Our Minnows children enjoyed some outdoor painting on the easel this week. It begun with a paint brush but quickly moved to painting our hands and pressing them onto the paper, Beau loved the feeling of the paint on his hands squeezing his fingers together with a big smile on his face.

When children can feel the cool squishy texture of the paint and experiment with colour and patterns, it encourages their creativity.

Congratulations to our 4-year-old kinder students that graduated last week. We hope everyone enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate their child's final kinder year before venturing off into school.

This week we welcomed a visit from Caroline from the Kindergarten Improvement team Bayside Peninsula area, to discuss further ways we can support our Kinder program coming into 2023.

Caroline is a wealth of knowledge and is always excited to hear about the improvements we are making at Seawinds Early Learning Centre & Kindergarten as well as the extra-curricular programs being created in the background for our Kindergarten children to engage in 2023.
