Did you see this heart breaking article, Why boys are falling behind at school? 💔

It doesn’t have to be this way! 😤 There is scientific evidence which shows, if we systematically and explicitly teach our children (especially boys) literacy with phonemic instruction, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension they will develop strong literacy skills for life.

I have so many discussions, all throughout the year, but especially around now with parents making the challenging decision about whether to send their precious little person off to school next year – both boys and girls. For those of you in two minds, this article by Maggie Dent may help you make a decision either way. Although the article focuses on boys, we believe it is absolutely relevant to girls also.

Does your child need more time before starting school?

She writes “I strongly advocate that you seriously consider delaying the start of formal schooling an extra year if you have the slightest concern about your son’s readiness.”

And as always, I am happy to help you nut it out. Sometimes talking it through with an impartial ear can help you make sense of all those thoughts running through your head!
