I laughed at this but there’s actually a serious point behind the joke.

If you use AI to avoid thinking, avoid learning, and avoid building skills…
then yes you’re training yourself to be replaceable.

But if you use AI to challenge your ideas, refine your work, and learn faster?
That’s building an advantage.

AI isn’t the enemy.
Avoiding skill development is.

The future won’t reward people who let tools do the thinking for them.
It will reward people who know how to think better because of the tools they use.

In 1987, changing to a 4-term school year and removing corporal punishment felt like a massive shift.

At the time, it probably felt disruptive. Controversial. Too fast.

But today? It’s just… normal.

Education has always evolved. From chalkboards to computers. From overhead projectors to smartboards. From textbooks to online platforms.

AI isn’t the first big change it’s just the next one.

The question isn’t whether education will change.
It’s whether we choose to guide that change thoughtfully or resist it until we’re forced to catch up.

Progress always feels uncomfortable in the moment. But over time, it becomes the new standard.

Aussie teachers are among the most stressed in the world and it’s rarely because of teaching itself.

The teacher shortage in Australia is real.
So real that we’re now recruiting teachers from overseas just to meet demand.

Technology will absolutely support education but there are roles where humans will always matter.

Teaching isn’t just about delivering content. It’s about trust, relationships, encouragement, and knowing when a child needs support, confidence, or challenge.

Right now, teachers still build stronger relationships with children than AI or robots ever could. And in roles where care, connection, and social development matter, people will always have a place.

The future of education isn’t humans or technology it’s humans supported by the right tools. When we get that balance right, kids benefit the most.

The real gap right now isn’t student behaviour it’s that education systems are still catching up to how fast technology is changing.

AI will be part of university, the workplace, and everyday life. The long-term advantage won’t be banning it it’ll be teaching students how to use it ethically, intelligently, and responsibly.

That’s the difference between shortcuts and skills.
