2025 Australian Volleyball Schools Cup - Final Day
Here is the recap from todayβs game provided by the coaches along with photos that we were able to get.
Year 7 Girls
The girls started in 7th position entering today. Our first game saw us take on The gap. After losing to them the day before the girls were all locked in. The first set started a bit shaky with us down by 8. Luckily Krystal's serving brought us back to even! Then the girls rallied around each other winning the first set 25-23. Krystal started us strong in the second with 12 point serving run. Then the girls were cooking, winning the second set, and the match 2-0.
Winning gave the girls another game against Danebank. Here the girls showed what they have learnt over the week, with some great libro action from Naomi, and some good serving by Nat. It was still a tough game but the girls managed to hold off the nerves and won 2-0.
The girls now finish the day and the tournament in 5th place!!!!
Year 7 Boys
Today the year 7 boys played off for a gold medal against Ivanhoe, with the opportunity to cap off their undefeated first 5 days. After losing a shaky first set, the Reynella East army rallied around the boys, and they won the second set, taking the game to a tiebreaker. Starting with some strong service runs, uncharacteristic mistakes and a more composed opposition brought Ivanhoe back in the game and the boys unfortunately lost 14-16 and finished their week with a silver medal around their necks (the first REC year 7 team to ever medal too).
Huge thankyou to all teams who supported, families who made the flight and all who supported at home. The boys are keen as ever to go one step further next year!
Year 8 Girls
The year 8 girls had one game today against Gladstone college for 9th and 10th place. They tried their best but unfortunately let the heat get to them and could not get their heads up. They lost 0-2 securing us 10th place out of 14. We are gearing up now to scream our hearts out in support of the squad later today.
Year 8 Boys
The boys had their final game for 2025 today against Brisbane Grammar who we have beaten before.
We knew we had to do the basics well to round out the week as winners.
The boys were able to finish off a roller coaster of emotions type of week with a 2-0 win.
Our serving was elite with some handy aces from Dayne.
The ring in coach Lachlan Yates demanded some true winners to help celebrate which came from the likes of Lenny, Ethan and Vinnie.
Thank you to the players and parents for this opportunity to take some amazing kids to play volleyball in the Goldy.
Year 9 Girls
The year 9 girls played off for 5th place today out of 22 teams. We as a coaches are extremely proud of our girls efforts on and off the court today. Although today was not our game. We left everything out on the court and are forever grateful for the improvement over the week. The girls are fired up and ready for next year. Bring on 2026!
Year 9 Boys
Year 9 Boys had a bronze medal match against Springfield Central. After playing them earlier in the week, the boys knew what they had to do. After gaining a significant 6 point lead in the first, they were just not able to finish the set. After some solid service pressure from the opponents, we were unable to take the first and went down 21-25.
Into the second set and we stayed close with them until around 8-8 when Springfield took the game away from us. Going down 15-25.
I have been so proud of how the boys played this week. Hope this fuels them for the years to come!
Year 10 Girls
Girls fought hard against the team that knocked us out of medal contention, winning convincingly 2-1. Finishing in 9th place. Onwards and upwards as we look towards next year.
Year 10 Boys
The Year 10 Boys secured a 2β0 victory over St Ignatius in their Gold Medal match, delivering an epic performance from start to finish. They were challenged throughout, but the boys showed incredible composure and held their nerve in moments where, in previous years, we may have faltered. A loud and passionate REC cheer squad played a huge role in lifting the team and helping get us over the line.
This group has largely been together since the beginning of Year 7 under the coaching of Max Renshaw, and they now bring home their first AVSC medal. It is a richly deserved achievement for every player, as well as for Max, who has given absolutely everything to this team and the program.
Year 11 Girls
The girls came up against Braybook for 7th place. The girls were confident as they had beaten this team the day prior. Unfortunately the vibes slowly died once we hit the court losing the first set. The spark was lit again for the second set and we played hard. Sadly the girls were able to get over the line finishing 8th overall.
Year 11 Boys
Year 11 Boys strolled into Runaway at 11.00am for an 11.30 meeting with Burnside. Simple equation was win and we are not during the following match. The boys responded to that news with a swift first set 25-20. With the duty on the line the boy came from behind to steal the 2nd set and the match 28-26 and secure 17th place. It was evident to both coaches that the boys have steadily improved across the week leading to a perfect crescendo!
Year 12 Boys
The year 12 boys had two options today. We either win the game at 8am against Mandurah Baptist, do a duty straight after and then back it up with a second game against John Paul College or, lose the game and our tournament is then complete. We chose the first option.
We had a shaky start dropping the first set only to come back into form in the second and getting across the line in the third. As this was our first win for the tournament, the boys were understandably up and about.
The second game against John Paul, a team that beat us convincingly in the pool round, got out to a hot start taking the first set to 17.
Not deterred from our goal, we came out firing in the second to have a 24-14 lead only for the jitters to set in and we allowed them to get with a whisker of us. Fortunately we able to find a point to take the set 25-23.
The third set felt pretty chaotic but the lads pulled it all together and took the win 19-17.
There was a rush of emotion and elation as we got our second win for the tournament. It has been a big week for us and as this is our final year, we have some fond memories to take with us.
