National Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect on our shared history, strengthen relationships and consider the role we can each play in reconciliation.

This week, ELTHAM College was privileged to welcome Tarina Fanning to the Clarke Auditorium at the Research Campus. Tarina is a proud Larrakia and Tiwi woman, educator and advocate with more than 30 years of experience supporting Aboriginal cultural awareness, understanding and reconciliation across communities and workplaces. As a member of the Stolen Generations, Tarina shared her lived experience and encouraged meaningful conversations around history, truth-telling and reconciliation.

Speaking with our Senior School students, Tarina highlighted the importance of National Sorry Day and the significance of acknowledging the truths of our past as part of creating meaningful reconciliation for the future. Her presentation encouraged thoughtful reflection, learning and discussion around culture, respect and community.

This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, All In, reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing commitment shaped through everyday actions, conversations and understanding. We thank Tarina for sharing her experiences and knowledge with our community as we continue to learn, listen and walk together towards reconciliation.

Last week, our Year 7 students took part in a meaningful presentation with Dolly’s Dream, exploring the importance of kindness, respect and positive relationships within our community.

The session encouraged students to reflect on bullying behaviours, how to support others and the importance of creating safe and inclusive environments both online and in person.

We are proud of the thoughtful and respectful way our students engaged throughout the session and grateful for opportunities like these that continue to strengthen our culture of care and wellbeing.

Do it for Dolly 🦋💙.

Our prep students recently explored the ELTHAM College Nature Reserve discovering the world of sound, music and texture.

While using a record player, a ukulele and different materials like paper and sticks, students observed how sound can be created, changed and amplified. From spinning records at different speeds to using small sticks and paper to explore texture and rhythm, the session encouraged curiosity and play through learning.

Experiences like these highlight the unique opportunities at ELTHAM College through our Nature Reserve. This special space provides the opportunity for students to connect with the natural environment and engage in imaginative and meaningful learning experiences.
