COLIC WEEK 🐴 Let's talk about the emergency that keeps horse owners up at night.
Did you know that colic is the #1 killer of horses? And that most colic episodes happen between 6pm and 6am — exactly when your vet is hardest to reach?
This week, we're diving deep into everything you need to know about colic: what it is, how to recognise it, what to do while waiting for the vet, and what NOT to do.
Let's start with a question: If your horse started showing signs of colic RIGHT NOW, would you know what to check?
Here's your colic action plan:
1️⃣ CHECK vital signs — heart rate, CRT, gut sounds
2️⃣ CALL your vet — give them the numbers
3️⃣ REMOVE food — but NOT water
4️⃣ WALK gently if the horse is comfortable (don't force it)
5️⃣ MONITOR and note any changes every 15 minutes
6️⃣ DO NOT give medication without vet advice
