After the out-of-air scenario underwater, Instructor David runs through how to safely stay afloat on the surface if you cannot use your tankโs compressed air supply to inflate your BCD (because itโs empty in this scenario).
Orally inflating your BCD on the surface - remember to STOP pressing the deflate button between breaths or the air youโve blown into it will be squeezed back out.
Take a breath from the surface, put your mouth on the mouthpiece, press down the deflate button, and blow the air into the BCD WHILE the deflate button is held down.
Then, release the deflate button, and take another breath from the surface, repeat until your BCD is fully inflated.
Now you can relax until the boat picks you up, or if youโre on a shore dive with your buddy, you can start making your way out to the exit.
This situation should never happen in real life, but in the rare instance it does happen - you are prepared, and you know how to handle the situation calmly.
