In this week's Studio Chat we explored the Coconut Ice Blanket and the Calm Chevron Blanket, and Pinkie gave them the snuggle test on the lounge! 😂

Have you made both or either of these Homelea Lass patterns?

✅ Learn how to crochet garments that fit in the Cardigan Along
☕️ get help & enjoy crocheting along with others
🧶 now until 30th September 2026

Do you want to wear cardigans, jumpers and other garments that you've crocheted, but have no idea where to start or how to get the size right?

The Cardigan Along is for you! It takes the stress out of crocheting garments that fit, with helpful information in the online course and guidance in the group.

👚 What To Expect:

1. Crocheting garments that fit is a rewarding process, but it can be hard because there is a lot involved. Go through the Crochet A Cardigan online course one step at a time. It’s not about getting the finish line first, the aim is to have a garment that fits and feels good to wear.

2. The first 4 steps are the most important and a new step is unlocked each week. This allows for time to learn, reflect, and if needed, make changes.

3. In early August we’ll move from crocheting swatches to crocheting the actual cardigan / vest / jumper / sweater / garment, and in September we’ll look at washing / blocking and what to make next.

4. The Cardigan Along is a small, supportive group and it’s here for you! Feel free to ask all your questions, share what you’ve learnt, and most importantly, how you’re going. We love hearing about it.

5. You can do this – I know you can!

A lovely customer reached out to me because she’d crocheted a Grounded Cowl and it wasn’t big enough. The 30 stitches in each row came out to be 90cm around, instead of the 100cm in the pattern.

😎 The good news is that there are 3 ways to easily adjust the Grounded Cowl pattern, or other similar crochet or knitting patterns, to the right size – feel free to use a combination of the solutions below.

1️⃣ Use a Different Size Crochet Hook

The size of the crocheting will depend on the size of the crochet hook – the diameter determines the size of the stitches. If the crocheting is too small, then use a bigger hook. If the crocheting is too big, then use a smaller hook.

To know if the bigger/smaller hook has fixed the problem – crochet the first one or two rows and then measure it to check the size of the crocheting in relation to the design.

2️⃣ Use a Different Number of Stitches

The size of the crocheting is determined by the number of stitches in the row or round, and it's possible to adjust the size by adding or removing the number of stitches. This solution is great if you don’t have a larger crochet hook, as you can use the one you already have.

To know if the new number of stitches has fixed the problem – crochet the first one or two rows and then measure it to check the size of your crocheting in relation to the design.

3️⃣ Blocking

Blocking is one of crocheting and knitting’s hidden superpowers – my crocheting and knitting started to look heaps better once I started blocking! It works the best with natural fibres – did you know that wool can change size by up to 30%?

What blocking does is it uses water to relax the fibres so they can then be reshaped before drying.

Here’s what to do:
- Soak the Grounded Cowl in cold water for about 30 minutes.
- Lie the Grounded Cowl out on a towel and then roll the Grounded Cowl up in the towel.
- Put the Grounded Cowl out flat in a place it can dry, reshaping to the new size.
- Leave the Grounded Cowl to dry.

I’m slowly getting back into the “normal” routine after arriving at my outback home for winter. I’ve unpacked and my home is clean and warm again, ready for lots of creative adventures!

I’m getting better at transitioning between my Melbourne and Quilpie homes, but I’ve got a lot of room for improvement. Like with crocheting, and life in general, I’m always learning, improving and getting better. The perfectionist in me hates that I’m not perfect at it the first time, but there’s another part that’s happy to embrace the process and the journey of learning and taking small steps. It’s all about balance I suppose.

💌 My apologies if you’re waiting on a message or email response from me, today is all about responding so you’ll hear from me soon.
