The RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) is an ecumenical and international organisation committed to enabling the best use of music in worship, church life, and the wider community. It is an open, life-long learning organization, offering direct and indirect education and training through its programmes, published resources, courses, and activities. With over 8,000 affiliates, members and friends

in over 40 countries it is an international network, encouraged by over 600 volunteers, and supported by a small staff based in the UK. The Queensland branch of RSCM is a lively body which promotes the aims of RSCM through its programs such as "Pipes and Pizza", Hymn Festivals, Spiritfest (a choral festival), Skills Workshops for organists, singers and conductors, repertoire sessions, and the Annual Summer School which is organised by RSCM Australia and rotated amongst the states. Financial members of the local branch receive the RSCM Queensland Newsletter, Church Music Quarterly, Sunday by Sunday (a guide to choosing music for the Sundays of the Church‘s Year. We look forward to hosting part of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) inSpires event in Adelaide between 2-5 October 2026. The event focusses on Australian and New Zealand composers and compositions with participants exploring how new music is imagined, shaped and brought to life in worship.

Our 10:30am and 6pm services on Sunday 4 October will be sung by the RSCM Festival Choir.

The Cathedral Choir has been affiliated with the RSCM since 1932. Founded in 1927 and originally called the School of English Church Music, it was granted royal status in 1945 by King George VI and adopted the current RSCM name.

The SA branch of the RSCM was the first RSCM branch to be formed in Australia in about 1944 and was chaired by the Rev’d Canon Horace Percy Finnis (Precentor and Bishop’s Vicar 1927-1955, Organist and Master of the Choristers 1936-1955).
