WOPILA! to all who took the time - I know it was a lot - to take my survey on Extreme Weather Events and the impacts you have been experiencing with your healthcare access, personal infrastructure (homes, vehicles, heating and cooling devices), and culturally.

there are many differnt options I could have taken for this research but I felt involving the input of the communities I want to help was the Priority - which is why I opted for surveys and interviews. This ended up being a process and requiring more time to complete because I had to learn new sets of social science skills rather than my more physical science background that I had when I entered my program to pursue this Ph.D. which was an opportunty to do climate change research within Tribal communities in the Great Plains region. And I hope the North Central Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCCASC, USGS) continues to provide graduate school opportunities in the future for more Native American scholars to conduct climate chagne research in our communities.

The raffle for tablets scheduled for tomorrow when I get a little more time this week.

The Native American population of the Northern Great Plains are experiencing climate change in the form of excessive heat waves, severe thunderstorms, severe blizzards, arctic cold spells, flooding, drought, etc. Although the Native people of this region are no strangers to these types of weather events, it is projected that these events will occur more often and will create more damage to existing natural resources and existing infrastructure. This survey is inviting all those who identify as Native American who are 18 years old or older to share your opinion and personal experience with the impacts of severe weather induced by climate change. If you have been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes your opinion is especially wanted for the survey! Your feedback is essential for the survey as you are the expert of the natural resources, social resources, and health resources of the areas in which you live. Your feedback can better help the climate change adaptation efforts of our Native Leaders that are necessary for the survival of the future generations.
