This week, our Term 3 students are up to glazing. After bisque firing, it’s time to choose glazes and add colour before the pieces head back into the kiln for their final firing. It’s always exciting to see how the colours turn out! 🎨

Here are some beautiful results from last term, and a little look at what you could create during the course.

It’s been 10 years since I started teaching pottery at Saltwater, and one of my favourite parts has been seeing the friendships that grow in class. 💛

Some students come along on their own, some join with a friend, and I’ve also had mums and daughters, husbands and wives, and partners learning together.

Many start because they’ve always wanted to try pottery or simply want to do something different. Before long, they’re chatting, learning together and enjoying that time away from the usual routine. 🏺

There’s something very calming about working on the pottery wheel. You can slow down, focus on what you’re making and enjoy being in the moment. ✨

This is my last term for 2026, and a few spots are now available. Come along on your own or join with a friend or partner. 😊

It is always lovely to see the progression in the students’ work. 🥰

Students are now making larger vessels and gaining the confidence and expertise to create them according to their own designs 🎨 I love seeing the transformation of these large vessels once they have been designed, decorated and glazed.

I will post some pictures after glazing 🔥

Three weeks into Term 3, and I am amazed by the amount of work already being created 😊

New students are taking baby steps, creating smaller pieces and becoming more comfortable with the process of working on the potter’s wheel. 👏👏

Students who have been with me for a number of years are taking the next step, using larger amounts of clay to create bigger bowls and more complex pieces. 🏺Some come in with a plan for the term, whether it is a set of dinner plates for home, large serving bowls, or lidded containers that require a little more skill to get the fit just right.

It is also lovely to see students testing how large they can go with a set amount of clay, recording weights and measurements as they work.

I cannot wait to see everything fired and glazed ✨

I am so grateful for how much our local ceramics community has grown over the past 10 years 🌱

When I first began teaching at Saltwater Community Centre (), there were very few opportunities nearby to learn ceramics and wheel throwing in Point Cook. Since then, so many wonderful friendships have formed, and the interest in clay has continued to grow. 🥰

I hope our growing ceramics community can one day have a larger, purpose-built studio. It would make it possible for more people to join us and make room for a wider range of classes, including hand-building and children’s programs🏡

Thank you to everyone who has supported the studio and helped shape this community. It means so much to me. 💛

From the studio window, we can also see some of the most amazing sunsets in the west. 🌞

Celebrating 10 years of teaching ceramics at Saltwater Community Centre ()🏺✨

I started with four pottery wheels and two classes. Since then, the studio has grown to eight wheels and four weekly classes, along with a wonderful local pottery community 🤍

It has been so rewarding to watch students begin as complete beginners, build their confidence and continue developing their skills. Some have even gone on to buy their own wheels and kilns, join artist markets and grow their own ceramic practice 🌿🎨

Thank you to Saltwater Community Centre and Wyndham City Council, and every student who has been part of these 10 years. I am very proud of what we have created together 💛

A big thank you as well to Bob CeeGee being a great supporter of the art studio. 🎉

There has been so much creativity in the studio this term 🎨

Students have been exploring their own ideas through shape, size and detail. Even when we start with the same basic skills, each piece becomes something completely individual. 🙌

I have really enjoyed seeing everyone’s personality come through in the clay. 🥰

Some lovely glaze results from Term 2. ✨

This term we introduced a few new colours, and it has been lovely to see new combinations arise with our regular glazes. 🌈 Orange and pink mixed with a few blues and white have created some beautiful results.

Every glaze decision brings its own character to the work, which is always exciting after firing.💞

A little look at the amazing student work from Term 2. 🤩

Everyone starts at the beginner level, and it has been so lovely watching students grow from those first steps into larger, more considered pieces. 🌱

Dinner plates, vases, bigger bowls and so many thoughtful details. I am very proud of what everyone has created. 🧡
