Weitj 3 Block Printing of Self Portraits

More action in the art room this afternoon as students continued with colour combinations, registration and off setting of prints. A small number trialled black on white, showcasing the full impact of the line and pattern work involved. Some very creative, interesting and unusual effects were created by students keen to experiment.

Weitj 3 (Year 6)

Some very conscientious students embracing the block printmaking process today; stage one of the colour procedure on their self portraits. Most managed to do four prints on a variety of coloured paper.

Could all students please have their own art shirt at school each week; this is artist quality ink, making it difficult to remove from clothing.

Year 1 Yerdarap 1

Year 1 students discussed facial features, size, shape, noting distance between each and last week created engaging self portrait drawings.

This week they viewed the work of WA artist Rebbeca Cool, looking at how she portrays noses, eyes, mouths and hair.

Edicol dye was chosen to represent their skin colouring and with the knowledge of correct brush holding, students began their painting.

Loving these character filled self portraits, all so full of individuality.

Each week a different Year 1 group will be posted to showcase the procedure.

Weitj 3 (Year 6)

Students started a drawing using a portrait photo and carbon paper. Conscious decisions were made in how they’d depict their special characteristics. These drawings will be transferred onto a polystyrene sheet ready for block printing a series of colour prints.

A few examples after one lesson. Weitj 3 parents, do you recognise your child?
