Masterclass 2 .education Pilot Schools!

RSE Project team members Associate Professor Jacqui Hendriks and Jordina Quain presented to a group of 11 independent schools involved in AISWA's Wellbeing, Consent, and Respectful Relationships Case Study Pilot!

Jacqui and Jordi talked all things evidence-based RSE, intersectional awareness of bias, the influence of shame that stops us teaching and talking about RSE topics, and how to have a practical and sustainable whole school approach to RSE.

We are so proud to be involved in the AISWA Case Studies, and look forward to continuing our work supporting these schools through their journey in implementing RSE in their school!

Thanks for having us AISWA!

Today is IDAHOBIT πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

This is a day to celebrate the progress made in LGBTIQA+ inclusion, whilst raising awareness of the high rates of discrimination that LGBTIQA+ people still face today.

Did you know that 2 in 3 LGBTIQA+ young people are still abused for their identity? Schools can be a powerful place to challenge discrimination and bias.

We've created a practical guide with 9 strategies educators can use to make their classrooms and schools more inclusive. From celebrating days of significance, to seeking out LGBTIQA+ inclusion training, to creating a Pride Group for students, these are some of our favourite strategies. It is by no means an exhaustive list. But it is a great starting point for schools looking for some ways to boost their LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and recognise their students' identities.

Small actions add up. Share this with a teacher, school leader, or parent who wants to make a difference. πŸ’™

Last year, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF and UNESCO developed a Topic Brief about Sexual and Reproductive Health for their series titled "How Schools Systems Can Improve Health and Well-being".

The document talks about:
+ why sexual and reproductive health (SRH), rights and gender equality are
important for learners’ health and well-being,
+ why schools are ideal places to support SRH, rights and gender
equality,
+ what a whole school approach is and how to have it in SRH topics,
+ how a systems approach to SRH, rights and gender equality works in different contexts,
+ global resource recommendations.

It is an incredible document for school and community RSE advocacy and support, highlighting the social change impacts of best practice RSE implementation.

🍾Congratulations to these amazing PhD Candidates and Early Career Researchers - Dr Sarah Vrankovich, Katrina Marson, Dr Giselle Woodley and our very own Jordina Quain and Hanna Saltis - on this publication in a special edition of Health Education Journal, focusing on Health Education for Social Justice.

Informed by a panel they presented at the 26th World Association for Sexual Health Congress last year, the paper highlights the long-term benefits of comprehensive RSE, and underlines the persistent failure to classify it as a human right, as well as the backlash against sexual and gender diversity, and how access to knowledge is limited.

We could not be prouder of RSE Project staff Jordina and Hanna, as well as the wider team of Sarah, Katrina, and Giselle, who have been close friends of the RSE Project for so many years. We are so pleased to have a group of fierce advocates of comprehensive RSE, banging the drum and refusing to stay silent about the plethora of benefits of comprehensive RSE.

The team have put together an amazing, and easily accessible summary of the paper here. These have been shared with permission from Sarah.
