AMEB in Concert - Music by Women on the Syllabus

Discover the remarkable women composers whose music is now part of the AMEB repertoire in this special concert presented as part of the inaugural 'Hear Her Now' festival.

AMEB in Concert brings together musicians from and students from Methodist Ladies’ College for an afternoon of music spanning different styles, periods and levels.

It’s a chance to hear familiar repertoire in a new setting, discover works you may not yet know, and celebrate the growing presence of music by women in teaching, learning and performance.

As part of AMEB’s First Nations Composers Program, Aaron Wyatt was commissioned to create new works for inclusion in AMEB syllabuses, helping to bring more music by First Nations composers into the repertoire studied and performed by musicians across Australia.

A Perth-born musician, Aaron has built a diverse career as a violist, composer, conductor and music technologist.

In this video, Aaron talks about his music, his approach to composition and some of the repertoire commissioned through the program.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to hear directly from Aaron and discover more about the stories and ideas behind these new works.

That’s part of what makes music so powerful. It can shift how we think, how we feel and how we understand each other.

Join Dr Gaby Gunders, Senior Syllabus Advisor and Chief Examiner for AMEB WA, for a practical workshop exploring how teachers and parents can help students develop positive practice habits, build confidence and get more from performance opportunities.

Drawing on her experience as a teacher, examiner and musician, Gaby will share practical strategies for:

• effective exam and performance preparation
• developing productive practice habits
• keeping students motivated and engaged
• building confidence, resilience and performance skills
• making the transition from the practice room to performance

We were thrilled to see Aaron Wyatt recognised at the APRA AMCOS 2026 Art Music Awards as Music Technologist for Dark Oceanography (composed by Kate Milligan), winner of Work of the Year: Electroacoustic/Sound Art.

Originally from Perth, Aaron is a violist, composer, conductor and music technologist with longstanding connections to WA’s music community.

Aaron also has a special connection to AMEB as one of four composers selected for the inaugural AMEB First Nations Composers Program, creating four new works across a range of instruments and grade levels and helping to bring more music by First Nations composers into AMEB repertoire.

Congratulations to Aaron and the entire Dark Oceanography team on this fantastic national recognition!
