🐎 Celebrating the Year of the Horse with creativity and colour!

This marks our third year joining the WA Bilingual Education Hub’s Chinese New Year Poster Competition, and our students have truly outdone themselves. With over 60 entries from Years 3 to 6, it’s been amazing to see such imagination and effort on display.

We’re excited to share that 12 posters have been selected to represent our school in the competition. These artworks are now displayed in the front office, while the rest can be viewed in the Chinese classroom. Certificates for these students will be presented at the upcoming assembly.

Don’t miss the chance to come and admire our students’ fantastic work!

🎉 Chinese Storytelling Competition 2026 🎉

Last Saturday (2 May), the 2026 WA Chinese Background Students Storytelling Competition, organised by CLTAWA, was held at UWA. A total of 38 students from 19 schools took part in the event.

We were proud to have two students represent Manning Primary School in our first year participating:
🏆 Jocab (Year 2) – 1st Place (6–7 age group)
🌟 Andrea (Year 5) – Certificate of Merit (10–11 age group)

Both students shared their stories with confidence and expression. Their enthusiasm for learning Chinese really shone through on the day.

A wonderful achievement – well done, Jocab and Andrea! 👏

Our Science garden may look quiet, but there’s still so much happening if you take a closer look!

The remains of our sunflowers were left to create a habitat, attracting grasshoppers at first, then aphids over the holidays. Students were encouraged to watch and wait, and soon discovered ladybird eggs under the leaves, perfectly placed next to their food source. We’ve since observed them develop from larvae to pupae, with some adults now emerging. A spider also made a brief visit, likely hunting for a meal!

These real-life examples (both observed and photographed) were used in Year 2 lessons on the ladybird life cycle and Year 4 learning about food chains. While the spider has moved on, there’s still plenty to see. Please feel free to stop by and take a look! 🌱🐞

What a fantastic day at the Interschool Swimming Carnival held at the High-Performance Centre on Tuesday.

Manning Primary School proudly brought along a strong squad of swimmers and dedicated helpers, all of whom represented our school with teamwork, determination, and outstanding sportsmanship.

It was wonderful to see every student giving their best in the pool, with many achieving fantastic results and bringing home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons across their divisions.

A special highlight of the day was our incredible Year 4 boys, who absolutely shone in the freestyle relay, bringing home the win in style! 🥇

Congratulations also to Harrison (Year 4) on an exceptional performance, earning the title of Runner Up Champion, an outstanding achievement! 👏

Well done to all involved. We are so proud of your efforts, spirit, and success!

Our River Rangers kicked off their first session of the term in the most incredible way, getting up close with some amazing birds of prey! 🦅

Students were fascinated as they learned about these magnificent creatures, seeing them in action and discovering what makes each one so unique. It was an absolute hit, with smiles, excitement, and plenty of “wow” moments all around.

Experiences like this are ones our students will remember for years to come. We feel so grateful to have such an amazing program here at Manning, giving our students the opportunity to engage in hands-on, real-world learning in such a memorable way.

This morning, our school community came together for a beautiful and respectful ANZAC Day service.

Our student councillors did an outstanding job leading the service, demonstrating confidence, leadership, and a deep understanding of the importance of this day. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented our school.

It was wonderful to see so many parents, families, and community members joining us, along with our special guests. Your presence helped make the occasion even more meaningful.

Together, we took time to reflect, remember, and honour the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country.

Lest we forget.

We wrapped up the term with a fantastic End of Term Assembly, celebrating the achievements of our students and recognising our award winners. It was wonderful to see so many students acknowledged for their efforts throughout the term.

Our school councillors led the assembly with confidence and did a fantastic job, while the Easter raffle and colouring competition brought plenty of excitement to the morning. A big thank you to our Year 6 students and teachers for organising this much-loved event, it is always a highlight each year.

We also congratulate the Year 6’s on raising an incredible $2470 to support their camp later this year, an outstanding effort!

Wishing all our families a safe and relaxing holiday break. We look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 2.

What a fantastic way to wrap up the term! 🎉

Our EDU Dance Concerts this week were absolutely amazing, and it was so wonderful to see our students shining on stage with confidence, energy, and big smiles.

A huge thank you to all the families who came along to support. Your encouragement means so much to our students and helps make these events extra special.

What a great way to celebrate the end of such a fantastic term. We couldn’t be prouder of our talented performers! 👏✨
