Westralia Unearthed. Saving history in W.A

Photos from Westralia Unearthed's post 11/04/2026

A few bits and pieces form one of our older permission.
Got a new permission lined up for the near future.
Most of our current permissions have been hunted out. Part of the reason why we haven’t been out much
Once where on some virgin ground we’ll be out more again. 👍

Well it’s been way to long since we last got out.
Life’s been busy lately but we managed a little swing the other day. Not much interesting particularly but this caught my eye. I believe it was a halfpenny, can’t make out any details because it’s been badly burned but I recon it’s been shot
And not by any bucket either
Judging off the size of the hole I’d say this was shot by a 50 cal. I could be wrong and please do let me know you’re thoughts on this one but it looks to big for anything like a rifle or pistol round.
Could’ve also been a piece of machinery but judging off the way it’s blossomed outward I’d say it was a projectile
But what do you guys think 🤔

All of the finds from yesterdays dig.
Some great pieces. The two best being the sailor brooch and the wings brooch. I’m not sure but the wings one might be a RAAF sweetheart brooch? Let me know what you think
Plenty of coins, badges and relics
Quite a productive little spot. Don’t usually do so well at these kind of bush sites

Definitely head back there soon 👍

How’s this for a stunning little find…
Back at the new bush site today and boy we cleaned up! We did even better than last time, more relics, more coins and just more quantity. But this little find would have to be the star of the day.

This tiny 1930s? sailor brooch is just gorgeous. Still with a few coloured stones inlayed this would have been someone’s pride and joy back in the day. I’m sure whoever lost it was heart broken, I can’t describe how happy I am with this find. It’s these sort of personal relics that are my favourite to find. Sure pre decimal coins are good and badges and buttons but this is unique, quite possibly one of a kind…

I also wonder if maybe it’s a sweetheart brooch given by some one in the navy. Given to a loved one before they went off to war…

Rest of the finds from last dig. Hopefully headed back to this spot tomorrow, fingers crossed for some more great relics 👍

As expected the rising sun came up amazingly. A little bent yes but it’s got character, can’t quite make out the makers mark, might be Stokes Melbourne?
I belive this pattern was used during both WW1 & WW2? Judging off the dates of coins found near by I’d say more likely WW2

Should be more great relics at this site. Heading back later in the week…

Out for an arfternoon swing today and scored this bad boy! My third ever rising sun slouch hat badge. Looks to be in good condition, the back lugs are missing but it has been buried for the best part of 70 years. I’ll post some clean up pics tomorrow

Happy days!!
