As I am planning my return to the classroom this semester, I was extremely excited to notice the release of the Digital Capability Framework for all WA Department schools on Ikon! The framework, along with the leadership reflection tool, will be a gamechanger for schools looking to develop their school's approach to Digital Literacy and Digital Technologies. It goes beyond what is happening in the classroom to look at a school in a holistic manner.

I cannot recommend highly enough for school leaders to take the time to complete the reflection tool and for classroom teachers to also look at the teaching and learning domains.

WA Department schools and teachers, head to Ikon and search for "Building Digital Capability" to access the mini-site for the DCF and related resources.

Unfortunately, it is behind the Department login so is currently only available to WA Public schools but work has been progressing with other jurisdictions so keep an eye out!

Congratulations to my wonderful past colleagues from Grok who were involved in the development of this tool! I miss working with each of you but it is so good to see the results of your hard work over the past 3 years and I will now get to benefit from it's use directly - so thank you!

Even more good news for WA Teachers! Damien Kee is coming to the ECAWA Conference as well. Damien's books and resources were an absolute lifesaver for me when I first started teaching robotics. Then I had the incredible pleasure of working with him for almost 2 years, soaking up everything I could from his extensive knowledge about Robotics.

Damien has a unique ability to synthesize really complex robotics concepts into the simplest of terms. He is an engaging presenter who gives practical, pragmatic advice. I'm so excited he will be here in WA!

However… while there is a significant push to incorporate technology into our educational environment, it is important highlight that these ‘things’ should be considered first and foremost as tools for teaching curriculum, not as content in their own right.

I'm excited to launch my first face-to-face events for 2025! If you are looking to Kick Start your Digital Technologies journey in 2025, I am running two 1-day workshops at the end of January. One for Primary educators and the other for Secondary educators.

These events will upskill teachers in the relevant Digital Technologies curriculum concepts and provide them with practical strategies to implement in their teaching and learning programs for 2025.

The WA Curriculum is due for familiarisation in 2025. I have high hopes for the new version, to make it easier for teachers to understand what is expected of them and to get the support they need.
