On Friday the children from Preprimary to Year 6 visited our church of St Simon Peter to celebrate the feast of Mary’s Assumption into heaven. Father Leonard celebrated a beautiful mass with us and each child wrote a healing prayer of intention that was offered at the mass. It was wonderful to hear the joyous singing and participation from the students for this special occasion.

Catholic Spirit Of The Arts 🎭 has started with a brilliant result for our ensemble groups.

Last Friday, our ensembles performed for the festival. Our Reed ensemble were awarded an OUTSTANDING award for their performance followed by our Flute ensemble receiving an EXCELLENCE Award.

We are so proud of our students. Hours of lessons and practice has definitely paid off. We thank Ms Perry and Mrs Royle for their hard work preparing our ensemble groups.

Well done to our ensemble groups for your exceptional performance!

🌎Caring for Our Common Home 🌎

Earlier this week, our Francis Jordan staff spent time reflecting on Laudato Si’—Pope Francis’s 2015 letter calling on all of us to protect our planet. We are incredibly proud to say that our Year 4 students are already leading the way!

Our students are deeply committed to caring for God’s creation. They already do a phenomenal job participating in gardening, worm farming, keeping our grounds clean, and finding brilliant ways to reuse items at our Tinker Table and Loose Parts play area.

Yesterday, we took this commitment to the next level by officially launching our Year 4 "Environment Teams"... and introducing some new feathered friends to the Francis Jordan family! 🐓

By taking on the responsibility of our new school chickens, students are learning invaluable hands-on lessons about:
✨ Animal care and compassion
✨ Sorting waste sustainably
✨ Health and hygiene practices
✨ The power of teamwork

Our very first Chicken Caretakers were shown the ropes today and did a fantastic job. Every Year 4 student will have the opportunity to care for the chickens throughout the term, and the enthusiasm is absolutely off the charts. We can’t wait until it’s time to start collecting our first eggs! 🥚🧺

On Tuesday, we acknowledged the importance of NAIDOC week. NAIDOC Week is a nationwide celebration of the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As NAIDOC Week occurred whilst we were on holidays, we had our NAIDOC Celebration on our return to school.

We were honoured to have a traditional Welcome to Country and a special smoking ceremony conducted by local Noongar Elder, Sandra Harben. Sandra shared the meaning behind the ceremony, and offered stories from her own experiences.

A smoking ceremony involves burning native plants over karla (fire) to produce smoke that clears away warra wirrin (bad spirits) and invites kwop wirrin (good spirits). It’s a powerful tradition used to mark new beginnings.

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Sandra Harben for leading a meaningful Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony, creating a space for reflection, healing and connection.
