On Saturday, 25 April, Ross and Lucia represented Bannister Creek Primary by laying a wreath, at the City of Canning ANZAC March and Commemorative Service. Thank you to Mrs Chen for organising and assisting our students with creating the beautiful wreath to represent our school at the service. Thank you Ross and Lucia for representing the school so well. Lest We Forget.

2026 Bannister Creek ANZAC Ceremony

On Thursday, 23 April, we had our 2026 ANZAC Ceremony. ANZAC day is an important occasion at Bannister Creek Primary. We had a school service that involved special guests Mr John Connell from the Riverton RSL who gave the ode, Mr Ron Sao MLA, Cr Mark Bain, students from Fountain College, school board Chair Mr Tony Ockwell, school board member Dr Paul Kebble, parent communication liaison Stacey Avery, P&C president Kate Bannister, P&C Vice President Belinda Harbron, and Ms Michelle Wilde.

We commemorate the occasion with both the Australian National Anthem, Noongar and English, and the New Zealand National Anthem sung in Māori. The event is designed to instil students with a sense of occasion and respect with many traditional elements, such as the playing of the last post and rouse, and flag dipping and raising during the ode and minute silence.

Congratulations to Mrs Marshall and our Student Councillors for organising and presenting the assembly, as well as the senior choir who sung with such pride. We were very impressed with the solemnity of our students and proud of adherence to the traditions of this important ceremonial occasion. It was particularly powerful to hear of the shared grief and pride for both those from Turkey and Australia and the way both countries join to commemorate ANZAC Day. Lest We Forget.

🌻 Care for Country Update 🌻

On a beautiful Djeran morning, Room 16 planted potatoes in the school garden, enjoying the opportunity to learn outdoors and connect with the season.

The students explored the lifecycle of a potato and not only how we care for the soil, but also how the soil supports plant growth. They discussed what potatoes need to grow, including healthy soil, water, sunlight and nutrients, and observed how their actions, such as watering and positioning the plants, directly impact growth. At the same time, they considered how plants give back to the environment by improving soil quality and supporting living systems. This helped students see the relationship between people and the environment as a balanced, interconnected system.

This experience allowed students to connect scientific understanding with the values of sustainability and respect for Country, deepening their appreciation for the land and how it supports us. They showed great thoughtfulness in their actions and conversations, demonstrating that even small actions can contribute to caring for our world.

A special thank you to Sophia, our Sustainability Student Leader, for her ongoing support. Her guidance helped students make meaningful connections between science and caring for Country, and her leadership continues to inspire others to take responsibility for our environment.
