Why is it I have practiced yoga for 14 years? (Ten reasons)

🌸One: It grounds me and brings me home to myself
🌸Two: It gives me an opportunity to meet myself where I’m at each and every day
🌸Three: It calms my busy mind
🌸Four: It helps me evolve

💫The month of March💫

Is all about making peace with food 🍽

❤️‍🩹If you want to heal your relationship to food and body, you have to give yourself unconditional permission to eat. That’s right, unconditional.

🤔“But Miri, if I give myself unconditional permission, I’ll eat lollies and cake and ice cream and cookies and put on heaps of weight”

❤️When we become intuitive eaters we learn deeply about ourselves, we learn what makes us feel like this and like that, we play and get curious, we hold high levels of self compassion and patience.

🐘 It’s really important to have unconditional permission to eat without ANY conditions because we know that the more we restrict a food the more we will be excited by said food.
(Don’t think about a pink elephant. What are you doing right now ? Thinking about a pink elephant! Am I right ?!)

❤️‍🩹 This does not look like binging on previously restricted food to get sick of it and no longer be excited by it. There is a practice to this and tools that clients and I work together on.

❤️One of my greatest teachers❤️

❤️There are so many lessons we can learn from our children, if we are willing to slow down and listen

❤️Be present, breathe.

❤️One big chunk of work I do with clients is teaching them to treat themselves the way they treat their own child (or niece or nephew or them as a baby)

❤️This way of interacting is full of compassion and patience.

❤️It really works wonders in healing our relationship to ourselves. Not only our relationship to food and body.

✨STILL IN FEB + still in the month to honour your hunger 🍲

🧐Do you know how hunger shows up in your body?

🤪When you are painfully hungry does it feel intense and urgent

🤢 When you are painfully full do you feel nauseous ?

✨When you are smack bang in the middle do you feel neutral neither hungry or full just pleasant ?

🤔Getting to know your hunger takes slowing down and it can be frustrating at the start of your not used to letting yourself get hungry

🙏There is no right or wrong when rating your hunger on the scale of 0-10, like in a hospital we use this as a method and is subjective.

👏Practising checking in with your body and hunger multiple times a day is just a method that helps you listen and become more attuned with your hunger cues.

🚴 HOW ARE YOU TOPPING YOUR SELF CARE CUP UP ⁉️🚴

🤔Do you know there are a bunch of different ways to practice self care?

Quite often when I work with clients we find that only one or two of the self care categories are being addressed (out of the five I work with)

💪Usually we practice physical self care (things like exercise)

👯‍♀️and relationship self care (like spending time with people who make us feel good)

🚨But what about the other cups?

🌴 Do you practice spiritual self care? Maybe spending time in silence and reflection, maybe with a journalling practice, maybe time in nature or prayer.

😂 What about psychological self care? Maybe outsourcing help with a psychologist, coach, counsellor, maybe taking time to laugh and play, maybe making time to enjoy your hobbies?

📱❌And what about your boundary self care cup ? Do you say no to extra projects and responsibilities if your schedule is already full? Do you speak up when others cross your boundaries ? Do you take breaks from TV or your phone ?

Inviting in positive self care behaviours and trying to minimise out attunement disrupters can be helpful when we are trying to heal our relationship to food.

👶👧👩‍🦳MY (BREIF) EATING STORY

⁉️As a child I was tiny, sticks for legs and arms, 8 pack- always conscious that I was smaller than my friends and always asked by family friends: “are you eating, if so, its clear not enough. Here have more!!”

🏃🏼‍♀️ I was super active and actually had a big appetite. This taught me to disconnect with my innate inner wisdom.

🦇 As a teenager I witnessed my friends in high-school comparing their “bat wings” (the skin which can hold precious fat on the backs of our arms) and chit-chatting about how to get rid of the fat there. I listened with shock and pure disbelief that this was something others noticed and were aware of let alone wanted to change!

❤️‍🩹 When I was older I heard family members speak unkindly towards their bodies. “This should be smaller” “I wish I looked like that” “if only this shrunk”. Undertones of “Im not good enough im not worthy, im not loveable”

😖These comments plus no coping skills lead me into an eating disorder. You name it- Ive had it. Over-eating and under-eating and everything in between.

💊 I over exercised, took laxatives and even used recreational drugs for a small period to minimise appetite.

🧘‍♀️ I discovered yoga, meditation, the power of breath when I moved out of home and found . I then did my teacher training with , studied naturopathy, psychology of eating , nutrition, exercise and lifestyle , and of course Intuitive eating

✈️ Somewhere in there I lived in Bali, traveled much of the world, opened a successful cafe for four years and had a beautiful (full of beans) bubba, Summer.

🎉 Birthday post for the birthday boy🎉 5 years old 🤯💫🐶

🐶 🧠 ❤️You can be the “dog” and train yourself new tricks (intuitive, compassionate and patient way of relating to food and body)

📚🤓 Like most things in life you have to earn it

🎶 You wouldn’t pick up a musical instrument you’ve never held and be shocked when you couldn’t play?!!! You would expect that!

🍱 It’s the same for intuitive eating, you have to put in the effort and practice - with compassion and patience might I add again!

⚒️ The principles I provide are simple and practical you just need to get out of your own way and trust the process
