Just finished reading Tumblagooda by Suzanne Ingelbrecht, first book in the trilogy. I attended the launch of the final book a few weeks ago, and bought the whole set. I'm always looking for good books to read with my students.
This was a great book. Target audience is 8-10 year olds. It's set in Western Australia in 1979. In addition to the fun adventure story and the relatable characters, the book also showcases Western Australian scenery and history. The illustrations by Michael Inouye perfectly fit the atmosphere of the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and can't wait to read the rest of the trilogy.

This is what it's all about.
Today's lesson went overtime. Because my gorgeous little year 2, previously a reluctant reader, couldn't stop talking animatedly about all the different jobs the letter E can do in a word. And, to use his words, how 'really kinda cool' that is.

I feel like an evil genius. This week I convinced two students that Pythagorus is easy and fun :-)

Merry Christmas everyone! Hope everyone is having a wonderful day.
What did you learn at school that still stands you in good stead?
I was one of those nerdy kids who enjoyed school and loved learning. So a joy in learning is probably one of the best things I took away from school.
But more specifically, in Home Economics with Mrs Darbyshire, I learned to make a roux sauce, which is the basis of my awesome cauliflower cheese. On special occasions I love to make a big dish to share with friends and family.

New toys arrived. Lots of fun place value learning coming up this term. And they're foam, so they won't weigh my tutoring bag down too much 🙂

There's nothing I like better than helping kids explore and celebrate their unique gifts. Artistic ability, a great sense of humour, something special they create, the ability to tell a good story, being a loving and considerate friend - every child has something special.
