Earth Day🌏 2026

This shared CSIRO post, that they have created for Earth Day shows us the most recent images of our planet, and they have quoted one of the NASA astronauts - Christina Koch saying:

"After returning from space, NASA astronaut and Artemis II mission specialist Christina Koch said this about our planet:
"When we saw tiny Earth, people asked our crew what impressions we had. And honestly, what struck me wasn’t necessarily just Earth, it was all the blackness around it. Earth was just this lifeboat hanging undisturbingly in the universe".

..and we can almost hear an echo from Genesis about darkness...

how very fitting.

What does Colossians 1:17 say about food systems? πŸ“–

Colossians 1:17 reminds us that in Christ, all things are held together β€” including our broken food systems.

In Week 5 of the WCC Global Systemic Carbon Fast, Rev. Sarah Macias develops this theological claim into a challenging practical argument. Industrial agriculture profits from brokenness. Farmers face debt, displacement, and an alarming rate of su***de. Cancer and ecological devastation are treated as normal. They are not.

Macias argues the church β€” as the body of Christ β€” is uniquely equipped to repair these severed relationships. And that in the place where we live, "God doesn't create it any other way."

A rich reflection for theologians, educators, and practitioners engaged in creation care and food justice.

πŸ˜‡ Faith in action: caring for Creation as part of God’s mission πŸ˜‡

16/02/2026

In Nov 2025, the World Council of Churches (WCC) released their β€œTen Commandments to
Climate-Responsible Banking” - a guide for faith communities to encourage divesting from fossil fuels.

β€œBy encouraging people to examine how their savings, pensions, and insurance funds are invested, the resource frames climate-responsible banking as an ethical and practical way to safeguard creation and human dignity. Linking financial stewardship with moral responsibility, the initiative aims to inspire practical, faith-driven action to protect the planet and ensure a just and sustainable future for generations to come.”

Have we made Christian unity too exclusively human?

πŸ‘‰ https://oikoumene.org/blog/creation-is-groaning-a-call-to-christian-unity-beyond-humanity

As we observe the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2026, Dr Louk Andrianos challenges us to expand our prayers beyond church walls.

"Creation itself groans, awaiting liberation and transfiguration" (Romans 8:19-23). The ecological crisis is spiritual disorder made visible. Climate change, biodiversity loss, pollutionβ€”these signal a broken relationship with God, neighbour, and Earth.

This week, pray for melting glaciers and displaced families. Pray for burning forests and refugees fleeing violence. Pray for unity that includes all God has made and loves.

Dr Andrianos writes: "Christian unity brings together more than denominations. This mystery lives in the Holy Trinity and extends to all creation's salvation."

Read the full reflection on creation care, spiritual renewal, and our call to reconciliation with all of God's creation.
