Today’s Year 6 Blue Assembly took us back to camp — and what a journey it was.

Students shared honest reflections about being challenged, stepping outside their comfort zones, and taking on things they didn’t always enjoy or feel confident doing. With the support of their friends and teachers, and a strong growth mindset, they pushed through and came out the other side stronger, more capable, and more resilient.

There was also a light-hearted warning from Mrs Short… she now knows just how capable our Year 6s are when it comes to serving and cleaning — so families might notice a few extra helping hands around the house this weekend.

We also celebrated our Merit Award recipients for Years 3–6 — a wonderful way to recognise the effort, growth and positive contributions of our students.

Our Education Support students have been busy creating some wonderful handmade treasures for Mother's Day — and their craft stall is popping up at Floreat Forum, Tuesday 5 May, from 9.00am–1.00pm!

You’ll find all sorts of great gift ideas, including cards, candles, plants, gift bags and plenty of other unique creations.

If you’re in the area, drop by, say hello, and pick up a fantastic Mother's Day gift while supporting our students’ hard work and creativity. If you can't make it to the Forum, the stall will also be at our Mother's Day Mass on Thursday, 7 May at 8.00am in Champagnat Chapel.

Yesterday we held our ANZAC Day service, honouring the courage, mateship, and sacrifice of those who served and those who continue to serve.

These values continue to inspire our students — reminding us all of the importance of standing up for others, showing resilience in the face of challenge, and working together with compassion and respect.

Lest we forget.

Don’t forget — tomorrow (Tuesday) is Student Learning Conversations for students in Years 7–12.
For in-person interviews, students are expected to attend in full winter uniform.

On this day in 1999, St Marcellin Champagnat was declared a saint of the Catholic Church.

A French priest who founded the Marist Brothers in 1817 with nothing but faith and a dream to educate young people. He wanted every student to feel known, valued and loved, and his legacy lives on across all that we do here at Newman College. 💫

We look forward to welcoming all students back to Newman College next Wednesday as we begin Term 2.

A reminder that the full winter uniform is to be worn from the start of term (unless otherwise advised). This includes shirts tucked in, college trousers (with the College belt for years 7-12), and for students in Years 4–12, the college tie and blazer.

Parent Interviews for Primary students and Student Learning Conversations for Secondary students will take place on Tuesday, ahead of the term commencing. Secondary students are expected to attend these conversations in full winter uniform, as they play an important role in reflecting on learning and setting goals for the term ahead.

We wish all families a restful final few days of the break and look forward to seeing everyone back on campus soon.

We are proud to introduce our 2026 Arts Captains at Newman College – Matthew and Alyssa.

Matthew is studying Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Applications, Physics, Literature and Drama on the ATAR pathway, with aspirations of attending WAAPA or pursuing engineering. He stepped into leadership with a strong desire to support those around him and saw the Arts as a powerful way to do this. As Arts Captain, Matthew hopes to broaden participation across all year levels, creating more opportunities for both primary and secondary students to engage in the Arts. He says what he loves most about Newman is its openness – a place where students are encouraged to explore and express themselves. His advice? Try as many new things as possible – even if you’re not the best at something, giving it a go is what matters.

Alyssa is also studying on the ATAR pathway, taking Religion, Chemistry, Mathematics Methods, Politics & Law and Literature. She hopes to study medical or criminal law after school. Alyssa wanted to become a student leader to help younger students discover their passion in the Arts – whether through drama, music, visual art or media – and to foster connections across year levels. She loves the endless opportunities available at Newman, along with the supportive teachers who make learning enjoyable and meaningful. Her advice to her Year 7 self: Get involved in everything you can – you never know what new passion or interest you might discover.

We look forward to the creativity, passion and leadership Matthew and Alyssa will bring to the Arts at Newman in 2026. 💙
