U3A Online U3A Online Inc is the world’s first virtual U3A and offers online short courses for older people who are isolated or housebound. What is U3A Online?

It is an Incorporated Association and the world’s first virtual U3A and offers short courses and many other useful resources for older people, especially those who are geographically, physically or socially isolated or who prefer to study individually. They can study the courses from home, or elsewhere, via the internet and need only basic computer skills. It is entirely run by volunteers and the

website is hosted by Griffiths University. Once you become a member, for an annual fee of $30, you have access to all the courses and can do as many as you like. Courses can either be studied independently or with a course leader to assist. U3A Online is about learning for pleasure and there are no prior qualifications needed, and no tests. There are currently over 50 courses which include, among many others:

Australian History; History of Castles; Religions of the World; The Romans; Antarctica; My Life Story; Autobiography and Journalling; Genealogy Online; Henry Lawson’s Life and Works; Writing Family History; Astronomy; Train Your Brain; Human Biology

Local U3As can also purchase a site licence which allows them to use the online courses in their own U3A, either via computer or as printed material. U3A Online also maintains a directory of U3A addresses and provides access to member discussion groups, news items, GEMS - a monthly online newsletter, and other useful links.
