Commemorating Eleftherios Venizelos

A very special weekend of events is coming up on Saturday June 13th and Sunday June 14th at our school and in Perth.
In order to honour the legacy of Eleftherios Venizelos - statesman, visionary and architect of Modern Greece - 90 years after his death, the Oceania Branch of the National Research Foundation "Eleftherios K Venizelos" has organised multiple events across Australia.
One of the events was a competition among students who had to create videos with interviews or readings about Venizelos, as well as other works of art inspired by his life. Three of our students took part in the competition and we have been informed that one of our students won joint-second prize in Australia, a fantastic honour for the student and for the school. The winners will be announced tonight in Melbourne and the winner from our school will receive his award on Saturday June 13th, by the President of the Branch Mr Antonis Tsourdalakis, who will visit Perth, in an assembly that we will organise at the school, from 11:30am till 12:30pm. The winning entry by our student will be shown in the assembly.
In the same assembly, we will have the pleasure of showing an extremely interesting documentary about the unification of Crete with Greece, for our students and their parents.
Later on Saturday June 13th, at 6:30pm, there is a Cretan dinner dance at Alexander the Great Hall. Information for reservations can be found here:
https://www.trybooking.com/DLHAD
On Sunday June 14th there will be a memorial service at St. Nektarios Parish, and at 1pm the documentary for the unification of Crete with Greece will be shown to the general public.
More information can be found in the attached flyer.

What an incredible day at our GLCI Souvlaki Day! 🇬🇷🌯

The GLCI Parents & Friends Association proudly organised this wonderful community event, bringing people together to celebrate food, friendship, and community spirit.
A sincere thank you to Hon. John Carey MLA, Minister for Planning and Lands; Housing and Works; Health Infrastructure, and Mr Frank Paolino MLA, Member for Mount Lawley, for taking the time to come down and support this fantastic initiative.

A huge thank you also goes to all of our amazing volunteers whose hard work and dedication made the day such a success. Your efforts behind the scenes and throughout the event did not go unnoticed!

We were also thrilled to see members of the North Perth community, who were in the area for olive picking, join us on the day. It was wonderful to see the two communities come together, connect, and share in such a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event, together we created a truly memorable and successful day for our community!

Perth Greek school launches student newspaper bridging two homelands 20/04/2026

We warmly thank The Greek Herald for sharing with their audience our collaboration with "To Vima", for the first student-produced newspaper from Australia for this initiative supported under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy.

Perth Greek school launches student newspaper bridging two homelands The Greek Language and Culture Institute of Evangelismos Sabbath School in Perth has launched Το Βήμα του Περθ (“The Tribune of Perth”).

The School Board of the GLCI of Evangelismos is thrilled to announce a very important moment for our school, but also for the Hellenism of Perth and Australia.
In collaboration with Το Βήμα (“The Tribune”), one of the most historic and important Greek newspapers, today we present Το Βήμα του Περθ (“The Tribune of Perth”), the first such newspaper from a Greek diaspora school in Australia and the second overall, after “The Tribune of Munich”. The initiative is under the auspices of the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy.
The texts, interviews, comics and sketches of this newspaper written by our students cover topics from the ban on social media for young teenagers and the issue of school uniforms, to Australian sports that are unknown to Greeks and how swimming can connect Rhodes with Perth. The main article of our newspaper, about the impressive history of Greek immigrants in Perth during the 20th century, becomes even more interesting if read alongside the interviews of today's Greek-Australian teenagers about what Greece means to them and how they adapted to Australia.
Warm congratulations to all our students for their excellent articles and to their teachers for coordinating this great effort.
We would like to thank To Vima and personally the head of the Culture department, Mr. George Polymeneas, for the excellent cooperation. We are honoured by this cooperation, as well as by To Vima's comment, on page 2 of the newspaper, that Perth is a beacon for all Greek diaspora.
In the comments below you can find the link to browse the entire newspaper electronically as well as to read each article separately.
The School Board Members: Georgios Tsitiridis (Board Chair), Angela Evangelinou-Yiannakis (Vice Chair), Pol Koutsakis (Principal), Nick Sykiotis (P&F Representative)

Last Saturday the 7th February , the GLCI held its 5th Blessing and cutting of the vasilopita, since its establishment, officiated by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Perth together with Fr. Emmanuel Stamatiou. We were also honoured by the presence of Mrs Eleni Georgopoulou, Consul of Greece.

As we begin the new school year, we pray that this blessing marks a year filled with unity, cooperation and continued growth for our students, families and broader community. May it be a year of inspiration, learning and mutual support, strengthening the bonds within our school and reaffirming our shared commitment to Hellenic education and values.
