“Introducing Dr. Celine Harrison, one of our esteemed researchers at our Center."
Dr. Celine Harrison began her professional career as a psychologist in 1973 with the Department of Child Protection. Following a hiatus while her two children were little, she returned to the workforce in 1983 as a graduate welfare officer in Geraldton in child protection. In 1986, she returned to Perth, completed her Bachelor of Social Work, and worked at the Princess Margaret Hospital and at the Social Work Department at King Edward Memorial Hospital.
She retired from her position as Head of Social in 2012, and in 2013 she undertook a PhD, which she completed in 2019. She now works pro bono and was a founding member of a network of advocates and community legal centres to promote representation for parents whose children are subject to statutory intervention. "The key themes that I bring to my identity and conduct as a social worker are that it is fundamentally a human activity, that relationships matter, and that we need to foreground and reflect on decision-making, perception, reasoning, and judgement in all our interactions", she said.
