Our students also develop important teamwork skills including effective communication, supporting their team-mates and working cooperatively. Today, 10 of our students are taking part in a wonderful learning opportunity through the Young Writers program, engaging in the Coming of Age workshop led by Chenée Marrapodi.

Based here in Western Australia, Chenée is an award-winning children’s author, journalist and podcaster, with a rich background in media including television reporting and published work across a range of platforms. Her passion for storytelling, writing and creativity is both inspiring and infectious.

Throughout the session, our students will be immersed in the craft of writing, exploring how to develop ideas, build compelling characters and experiment with the writing process. They will also gain insight into the world of journalism, learning how to identify a strong story, conduct interviews and write with purpose and clarity.

This experience provides a valuable opportunity for our young writers to connect with a professional author, deepen their skills and collaborate with like-minded peers in a supportive and creative environment.

We look forward to hearing all about their learning and seeing their ideas come to life! ✍️📚

Our Kindy students have been learning about emotions. "The Colour Monster" is a picture book about a little monster who wakes up with all his emotions mixed together, and with the help of a friend, he sorts each feeling into a different colour jar - yellow for happiness, blue for sadness, red for anger, black for fear, green for calm and pink for love. This story teaches children to recognise and name their emotions, understand that feelings can be experienced in different ways, and learn that it is normal to have more than one feeling at a time. It also supports early self-regulation, builds emotional vocabulary, and encourages children to talk about how they feel using simple visual cues. We love their work.

On Friday 2 May, North Cottesloe Primary School hosted our annual Cross Country Carnival at Harvey Field for students in Years 1–6. Despite a cold start to the morning, conditions quickly improved and we were fortunate that the weather held off, allowing for an excellent day of competition and participation.

Students represented their factions with great pride, demonstrating determination, resilience and a strong sense of team spirit throughout each race. It was particularly pleasing to see students encouraging one another, celebrating individual efforts and displaying outstanding sportsmanship across all year levels.

Congratulations to all students who participated and gave their best on the day. A selected group of students will go on to represent NCPS at the upcoming Interschool Cross Country Carnival. This year, for the first time NCPS will be taking a team to participate in the Primary Champion Schools Cross Country, hosted by School Sport WA. This event will see our students compete against participants from hundreds of public schools across the state.

We wish our team the very best as they prepare to represent NCPS with pride.

Today, our Year 5 students at NCPS proudly hosted our ANZAC Service.

ANZAC Day is a time for all Australians to reflect on the courage, sacrifice and service of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, and all those who have served our country in times of war and peace. It is an important opportunity for our students to develop an understanding of our shared history and to show respect for those who have contributed to the freedoms we enjoy today.

We were honoured to be joined by Nick Berry from the RSL Cottesloe Sub-Branch, a former member of the Australian Army who served in East Timor and Afghanistan. His presence added great significance to the service and provided a meaningful connection for our students.

🎨🫟 Front Office Display 🎨🫟

Year 6 students had fun exploring continuous line drawing inspired by the artist Pablo Picasso.

After practising drawing without lifting their pencil, they took this exciting skill to the next level by creating continuous line self-portraits using wire. Students bent, twisted and shaped one long, unbroken line to create expressive and creative artworks.

💛💙On Wednesday 22 April, 41 students from Years 3–6 travelled to the Perth High Performance Centre to participate in the A Grade Interschool Swimming Carnival.

North Cottesloe students demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, cheering one another on and congratulating teammates after each race. Their support for one another was a highlight of the day.

We are proud to share that we placed 1st against four other highly competitive swimming schools, with our relay teams delivering particularly strong performances in the pool.

It was a fun and impressive day for all involved. Congratulations to all participants!💛💙

Year 2 have been exploring the incredible work of Louise Nevelson and creating their own artworks inspired by her unique style.
As part of their learning, students experimented with grouping shapes together, using “brackets” to organise similar shapes, and layering and stacking these groups to add depth and interest to their designs. Once their sculptures were complete, each group selected one of the three monochromatic colour schemes famously used by Nevelson; gold, black or white to finish their work.
The result? A collection of bold, textured artworks that show just how creative our Year 2 artists can be. We are so proud of the way they experimented with shape, structure and colour to bring their ideas to life! 🎨✨
