Reconciliation week : We Are All In!
We visited our Art work in Yagan Square, Perth CBD with our Children and Families and encountered Reconciliation Australia’s beautiful artwork under it.

“All In” makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change by

The artwork for this years Reconciliation Week poster, Gaagal (meaning ocean in Gumbayngirr language) by explained“this artwork uses the ocean as a metaphor for people from all walks of life swirling together to be ‘all in’ for reconciliation…”

Art process helps us facilitate discussions in the contemporary world, children connecting with this world will create a better future. We will be come better being in their company

Our aesthetic and art subject matter is inspired by Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar and more specifically our children’s connection to Country through Koondoola regional bushlands.

Through important dialogues on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar our children created three meaningful artworks (Koondoola, Djerapin and Together) which are now screening in Yagan Square in Boorloo.

“ I know important things, this is important, the city is important, being kind is important.” - D, age 4

If our children can start dialogues of reconcilliation so can you!

Tag or Share and start a dialogue of reconciliation in action !

Why our children’s art work is being screened at Yagan
Square?

Because our children have important things to say
This artwork “Connections” was created with children from 8 months to 5 years old.
Using thier favourite colour they described thier connections of family and community but also connections to the Djerups (Birds) bidits(ants)and yonga(kangaroo) that lives on Noongar Boodjar.

Using materials our children engaged in important dialogues as they drew their portraits and painted with their friends.

Our children’s message is simple.
We are kind to all, we are all connected.

Where there is kindness there is hope.

Through this project we have asked our inspiring community “What do you think the world needs to hear right now ?”

Dr Paul From ReMida shared his wisdom“Grace instead of judgement, assume the good and always help people do the right thing.”

Share this with someone who is kind and let’s strengthen our kindness Connections !

Our children’s art work is being screened at Yagan Square as a collaboration with our “Connections Project”

Our educators started this year with dreams to strengthening inclusion , understanding and relationships while navigating growing polarisation in local and global contexts. This launched The Connections Project.

We asked our community,What message do you think the world needs to hear right now?

Overwhelmingly the messages from our children, educators and commuinity are ones of kindness and hope. We share these messages through art.

Our artists in residence wise words “ Wherever there is bad there is always good, and the communities pull together “ - Artist Jacinta Taylor

Some beautiful quotes by our children are
The whole world needs a giant hug” - A age 3
“Just because your scared of something doesn’t mean you need to hurt it” - R Age 4

Now a question for you

“What message do you feel the world needs to hear right now ?”

Our weekly exploration on country is constantly blooming with life and wonder. As the warmer temperatures emerge in Birak so does all the citizens of the Koondoola bushlands here on . Our children we espeacially excited when we happened upon a giant Kara (Noongar name for Spider) and it’s giant web “it’s a mummy spider and those’d are her babies” I,Age 5.

We noticed there were less bidit homes and wondered where they have gone ?

Theorising and research in Eco literacies with children is the best story telling tool as they weave together moments that paint a bigger picture. Often leading to places of love, joy and togetherness.

As Boodjar heroes know we don’t take from our bushlands and we protect it. This year we joined Murdoch University’s research on eco literacies in the early years of children. We are so excited to be involved with our children for big world movements!

What spider do you think this is and what was an interesting encounter you’ve had in the bush lands ?

Our atelier is more than an art Space , it’s a space that invites wonder excitement discovery and happy oops-es! While creatively creating with our children in our atelier we accidentally made a giant rocking Christmas tree 🎄 it’s gently movements reacted to the many little hands working to add their colours and bringing so much joy and giggles along the way.

This book was created to help facilitate conversations with our children about loss and displacement. At the same time its themes demonstrate the importance of empathy, kindness and aid.
The background art is an ongoing collaboration with Yued/Ngudju Artist Jacinta Taylor. Jacinta prompted our children's fascination with birds leading them to become the characters for our stories.
The birds were intentionally painted all the colours of the rainbow, a common aesthetic we induct when discussing inclusion. Colour is a subject where our friends can connect. Every child in our space has a favourite colour, this is something that opens dialogues, sparks creativity and creates friendship even if the colour is contrasting.
We chose to include Noongar Language for our birds as children observe and inquire on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, therefor first Nations perspectives are always infused within our research and dialogues.
Inspired by the work profits from the sale of this book will be donated to their go fund me . They will be on sale next week for $15 . DM us for more info or to order a book. 's
