You don't need to have the next five years mapped out for them; you just need to let them know they are loved, safe, and that you're parenting them together through whatever comes next.

👉 If you know it’s time to tell the kids their family structure is changing, we’ve got you covered, every step of the way. Download our free guide outlining exactly how to share the news with your children.

After all, you were never meant to do this alone.

Between school logistics, co-parenting schedules, work, and just plain old daily life, it’s so easy to feel like you’re constantly on duty. If you’re feeling exhausted, here’s your reminder that you are not a bad parent or person if you’re not immediately available around the clock to respond to the whims of somebody (anybody) else.

We can’t always control when people message us, but we can control when we choose to open them. Set a custom tone for genuine emergencies if you need to, flick on Do Not Disturb, and gift yourself a couple of hours of peace.

We’ll all still be here when you get back. Pop in later, if you want, and tell me what that was like for you, to give yourself a moment to just BE?

We need to stop waiting for families to break before offering support.

I’ve worked with separated families navigating the family court system for decades, and here’s what I can tell you for certain: Most parents want to do right by their kids during separation.

They just need good information and warm support to help them figure out exactly what that is and how to get there.

But what I saw, repeatedly, was families being placed under the courtroom microscope, where people well trained at winning legal arguments attempted to help them solve delicate, deeply nuanced people problems.

Families who needed tender care the most instead became trapped in a system of trauma, conflict, and litigation.

That’s why I stepped outside the traditional system to advocate for a different approach.

You deserve a path that meets you at the crossroads, right at the beginning of your separation, with a box of tissues, a cup of tea and a clear, compassionate plan to guide your whole family safely to the other side. If you need to leave an unhealthy relationship, I’m here to help you find a healthy way to do it, and I'll help you find your team.

Early support and the right mental health, legal and financial professionals in your corner makes all the difference.

You are the best person to write your family’s next chapter, not a magistrate. And if you’d like a dedicated editor and guide to help you cut the conflict, hold the map, and help you get your kids the future you’ve been dreaming of? I’ve got you.

Collaborative Practice is a positively life-changing alternative to traditional dispute resolution. The only problem is that we need more people to know about it, and more people trained in it.

Collaborative Practice uses an interdisciplinary team, often chaired by a mental health professional, to support separating participants and help them make legally binding decisions about their finances and parenting arrangements. The process is designed to nurture, care and support clients as a two-home team to find solutions that feel good and healthy for all involved.

Calling all Mental Health Professionals, Family Lawyers, Accountants & Financial Advisors: If the idea of working as a team to support families through a kind alternative to litigation is something you would find fulfilling, come join us at the Collaborative Professionals WA two day foundations course in Perth next week.

Whether or not the training fits with your diary right now, if Collaborative Practice sounds like something you want to know a whole heap more about, join us on Saturday August 15 for an incredible line up of presenters from across the country, for our CPWA Collaborative Practice Conference. I am super excited about the agenda for this amazing day.

Just had the most fabulous planning afternoon with these two amazing humans, Julie Strack (Pitcher Partners ) and Debbie Clinch (Clairs Keeley Lawyers ), in preparation for our workshops at Collaborative Professionals WA Foundation Training in Perth, the Resolution Conference in Adelaide and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals Conference in Vancouver later this year. Already got to hang out with them yesterday when we presented a Masterclass for the Western Suburbs Business Association.

What are all these events about? The incredible goodness of multidisciplinary teams in Collaborative Law, of course.

We are shifting the paradigm for two home families. We are doing it together, across law, psychology and finance; and we're stretching right across the globe.

Unhealthy relationships can end in healthy ways. We are here to support families, and to resource the professionals that serve them.

I love that THIS is the life I get to live, THIS is the work I get to do, THESE are the people I get to stand shoulder to shoulder with. And the families I'm privileged to serve? Folks, YOU are the very, very best of all.

Learning how to be co-parents is a whole separate deal to the one you originally signed up for with the person who’s now your ex.

The rules are different, the way responsibilities and decisions are shared changes. And all that happens whilst, often, there’s a bucketload of conflict, hurt and pain.

It’s no wonder establishing the new boundaries of co-parenting feels impossible.

And yet, they are the very thing that make it so much easier to co-parent in harmony (or, at least, with a tad less discord).

Clear boundaries protect your wellbeing and your children's sense of security.

Here are some key indicators that something needs to shift in your boundary management with your ex:
* You feel like you have to be constantly accessible to your ex, 24/7
* You’re constantly overcompensating for gaps in their parenting
* It feels like you’re always walking on eggshells to avoid conflict
* You’re just flat out exhausted from the emotional labour of predicting and managing their feelings

Setting boundaries isn't selfish – it's necessary. And I’m 100% on your team for helping you set and hold yours.

Doors to our next Reset close Wednesday July 29, 5pm AWST. We'd love to have you with us.

The idea of clear, respectful communication sounds so simple, doesn't it?

But you and I know, communication with an ex can be anything but easy.

Sometimes (maybe all the time) it seems no matter what you say, you’re misinterpreted again and again. Your stress levels skyrocket, making it so much harder to think clearly - let alone freaking communicate. Before you know it, you're caught in the same exhausting cycle yet again.

The feeling that nothing ever gets resolved is nothing short of maddening.

There’s a better way.

In our Co-Parenting Intensive Reset, we’ll equip you with tools and strategies that help you:
* Understand more about what drives the unwanted behaviours of your co-parent (and sometimes yourself and your kids)
* Structure communications to get the best outcomes for your whole family, even in tough situations.
* Process and release some of the bigger emotions your body’s been holding onto since the separation.
* Build your own blueprint to start building a better way for your family
…with or without your ex being on board.

If you think this sounds like something you're longing for, you can find all the details here https://www.coparentingcompanion.au/reset

One of the (many) things I love about training is the opportunity to meet other amazing clinicians working with families in tricky times. It was such a privilege yesterday to run this workshop at the ACBS World Conference on bringing compassion and flexibility to working with separated parents and their children.
