West Balcatta Primary School

West Balcatta proudly took part in Schools Clean Up Day, a national initiative by Clean Up Australia. Led by our Student Councillors, students from all year levels worked together at lunchtime to collect litter and care for our school grounds. Together, they helped keep our playgrounds, gardens, courts and outdoor areas clean and tidy. This was a wonderful way to show our commitment to Environmental Responsibility and to encourage students to take pride in looking after the spaces we share.

Science Club got off to an explosive start last Friday. Students learned how to copper-plate a nail before launching a rocket on the oval. Such was the power of the launch that the rocket zoomed out of sight, and we haven’t managed to locate it yet. If you happen to come across a rocket while strolling around Balcatta, please return it to the school office. I’m sure Dr Nick would love to have it back!

Our Pre-primary and Year 1 students have made a wonderful start to the school year! They have settled beautifully into their new classroom routines and are already showing what kind, capable learners they are.
It has been lovely to see new friendships forming, confident smiles each morning and growing independence as students learn where everything belongs and how our classroom works. We’ve been busy exploring our learning spaces, sharing our ideas and setting goals for a fantastic year ahead.
We are so proud of the way our young students have embraced this exciting new chapter. We can’t wait to see all they achieve in 2026!

We are excited to be part of the City of Stirling Christmas lights display this year! Our Year one (and TA5) to Year four students have contributed some amazing Christmas artwork which has been digitised and animated as part of the display. You have four weeks to view the lights. The projection runs for 40 minutes each night. Below is a rough timetable of when the art will be displayed:

7.00pm - Pre-Primary (TA5)
7.01pm - Year One
7.11pm - Year Two
7.22pm - Year Three
7.30pm - Year Four

First, snaffle a FREE coffee from Perth Coffee Express who be located in the staff carpark, then head to the library and find a comfy spot in the C Block courtyard and enjoy a book with your child.

FSI, the fabulous team behind our library management software, is kindly providing the coffees.

Year 6 students in TA14 took on an exciting escape room challenge this week, using their Order of Operations knowledge from this term. Working in teams, they solved puzzles, cracked codes and completed challenges, all while consolidating their maths skills. It was fantastic to see their teamwork, problem solving and enthusiasm throughout the activity. Well done TA14!

Our Year 6 students have arrived safely at camp and are already diving into the fun! Here's to an exciting few days of adventure and unforgettable memories!

One of our Year Four students wowed the class with her news presentation on author Sandi Parsons, who also happens to be our school librarian! She went above and beyond by interviewing Sandi after school and then creating her very own book to go with her presentation. You can even find her fabulous creation in our school library!
