We received such a lovely surprise this morning for Early Childhood Educators’ Day 💛

Gary and I were both recognised by Eastern Region Family Day Care with certificates and a beautiful little “hug in a mug” gift, and it genuinely meant so much to us.

Family Day Care is built on relationships — with the children, their families, our coordination unit and the wider community around us. There are busy days, challenging days, funny days and those really special little moments that remind you exactly why you do what you do.

To be acknowledged for the care, commitment and passion we bring to Today’s Child Family Day Care was such a thoughtful gesture, and we’re both very grateful.

A huge thank you to the ERFDC team for making us feel appreciated today. 💛

And to all the wonderful educators being celebrated today — Happy Educators’ Day. What you do matters.

Today is Early Childhood Educators’ Day 💛

A day to recognise the incredible people who show up each day with patience, care, creativity and commitment to support children as they learn, grow and discover the world around them.

To every educator making a difference in the lives of children and families — thank you for the heart you bring to what you do. Your work matters, your relationships matter, and the little moments you create each day often become the ones children carry with them.

And to families, if you have an educator who means something special to your child, today is a lovely day to let them know they are appreciated. 💛

🌿 Why Play Matters 🌿

Free play isn’t just “kids messing about” — it’s how they learn to solve problems, manage big feelings, and build real resilience. In this quick clip, Dr. Peter Gray (research psychologist and one of the leading voices on childhood play) explains why unstructured play is disappearing from kids’ lives, and why that matters so much for their wellbeing.

Worth 60 seconds of your time, especially if you’re raising or caring for little ones. 👇

Another beautiful week of learning through play at Today’s Child 💛

This week was full of those little moments that make Family Day Care so special—friendships growing, children learning from one another, lots of laughter, and imaginations taking us just about anywhere!

We watched our little ones connect and communicate, saw transporting play continue to flourish, enjoyed Lego, books, music and creative experiences, and worked on important social skills such as recognising when a friend wants some space and respecting their boundaries.

By Friday, imagination had completely taken over! A lounge became a getaway car from a tornado, the grass transformed into an ocean for a scuba-diving adventure, PVC pipes became flippers, a shark made an appearance, and somehow I ended up being Mum and driving everyone to the park.

These experiences might look like “just play”, but there is so much happening underneath—communication, creativity, problem-solving, empathy, confidence, physical development and a growing sense of belonging.

Here’s a little glimpse into our week and the learning that unfolded along the way.

💛 Early Childhood Educators’ Day – Wednesday 2 September 💛

Next week we celebrate Early Childhood Educators’ Day — a chance to recognise the wonderful educators who dedicate so much of themselves to caring for, supporting and guiding young children every day.

Working in early childhood is so much more than simply “looking after children”. It’s building relationships, creating safe and welcoming spaces, noticing the little things, supporting big emotions, encouraging curiosity, celebrating milestones and helping children feel that they belong.

To all of the educators working across Family Day Care, early learning centres and other early childhood settings — thank you for your commitment, patience, care and the heart you bring to what you do. The work you do matters, even on the days when it might not feel like anyone notices. 💛

And to our families and community — if there is an educator who has made a difference in your child’s life, take a moment this Educators’ Day to let them know. It doesn’t need to be a gift or anything elaborate. A simple “thank you, we appreciate what you do” can mean more than you realise.

✨ Here’s to all the educators helping little people learn, grow, feel safe and know they are valued.

Another wonderful week of learning through play at Today’s Child 💛

This week really highlighted one of the things I love most about Family Day Care—the opportunity for children of different ages to watch, learn and grow alongside one another. We saw our younger children putting skills into practice after weeks of observing their older friends, while our older children had opportunities to lead, include and share their ideas.

There was plenty of curiosity too! From trains and transporting, to sensory exploration, sandpit investigations, problem-solving with tubes and stones, body-space discoveries and collaborative role play, the children were busy testing ideas and finding their own ways to use familiar resources.

These everyday moments may look like simple play, but underneath there is so much happening—persistence, communication, relationships, problem-solving, confidence and a growing understanding of the world around them. 🌱

Here’s a little look at our week and how our play connected with the EYLF Learning Outcomes.

🌿 Another week of learning, laughter and discovery at Today’s Child! 💛

Every week reminds me that some of the richest learning comes from the simplest experiences. A new musical instrument, a length of string, ribbons in the trees, a dump truck, or even a conversation about the rain can spark hours of curiosity, creativity, and meaningful learning.

This week our children explored, questioned, problem-solved, moved their bodies, built friendships, and continued developing important life skills such as kindness, respect, patience, and asking for consent. It was especially rewarding to watch them revisit favourite experiences, extending their ideas and taking their play in new directions.

Here’s a little snapshot of our week and the learning that naturally unfolded through play.

I’m incredibly honoured and humbled to share that Today’s Child Family Day Care has been nominated for the 33rd Belmont & Western Australian Small Business Awards 2026!

This nomination means so much to me because it reflects the trust and support of the amazing families who have chosen me to be part of their children’s early years. Every day I strive to create a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.

A heartfelt thank you to all of my wonderful families, supporters and our local community. Your encouragement, kindness and ongoing support have helped make this possible.

No matter the outcome, being nominated is an achievement I’m incredibly proud of. Thank you for being part of the Today’s Child journey.

Another wonderful week of learning has come to an end at Today’s Child! 💛

This week was all about giving children the time and space to revisit their favourite experiences. It was incredible to watch familiar activities grow into new adventures as children built on their ideas, challenged themselves, and followed their own interests.

From imaginative train play and loose parts, to foam pits, obstacle courses, transporting treasures, music, movement, and sensory exploration, every day was filled with meaningful moments of learning. Watching children confidently return to experiences, solve problems, create, collaborate, and simply enjoy being children is one of the greatest joys of family day care.

Here’s a little snapshot of what we’ve been exploring this week, along with the learning that naturally unfolded through play.
